Word is trickling out that a redshirt season is a real possibility. He's going to seek a second opinion but and additional surgery is not out of the question.

This will severely hamper the Friars from doing anything special this year. Friars were thin in the backcourt to begin with.

As terrible as that would be IMO the hoyas had less talent, experience & depth last season after losing Whit and they made the tourny. Last night PC beat a very experienced and good team in BC. Something special should still be attainable for Cooley's squad this season.

Losing Dunn would be devastating for this season. Cotton is the only other quality player who can play that position, so a loss of Dunn would affect 2 positions. It would downgrade the point and it would turn the team's leading scorer into a distributor - or he would be a shoot-first point guard who doesn't make other players better.

The red shirt report is consistent with post game comments from Cooley that he wasn't close to coming back for last night's game.

the good news for Providence is they scored more points last night than they did all last year and all but 2 games 2 years ago in a loss to West Virginia.

Going to make it tougher obviously. I feel better about PC even with this news than I thought I would before the game.

The Friars are going to have to make the adjustments since Dunn appears to be heading for the red shirt. Cotton is 'adequate' at the point, not great and it does change his effectiveness. Josh Fortune, a Sophomore did a very credible job as a starter and showed overall court sense improvement - he is a talent with a rep as a spot up shooter so to see that was good.

The suspended Freshman situation must be resolved and both kids need to step up, get with the program as they are needed yet Ed Cooley will not take any nonsense so they either take their punishment and emerge with the right attitudes or the Friars will once again have depth issues.

Brandon Austin, one of the "suspendees" may be a big help as he sees himself as a PG even at 6'6" yet he had jitters in the first exhibition game vs. D3 Rhode Island College and was trapped more than once by their smaller yet game kids. Highly touted and talented, he is still a FRESHMAN who would do himself a favor and get with the discipline and focus required at this level and work very hard. That remains to be seen...

The other "suspendee" is the young and talented Rodney Bullock who was a team mate of Josh Fortune. He is very young, like Austin, a true Freshman but is valued as someone who can help down low as he has already shown an innate court sense and stuff you cannot teach.

Keep an eye on transfer Tyler Harris who was tight vs. BC but he could emerge and really help along with true 7 footer Carson DeRosiers...

So many losses already this year. If he does miss the season, you just have to look at it this as an investment in a way. He will be better as a 5th year senior than he would have been this year (assuming he uses all 4 years, which really can never be assumed anymore for various reasons).

Not saying I know extent of the injury however..... A lot of what I'm reading here is same info tied to Kris's injury last year. Some may be reading "year old" reports of red shirt season and so forth as the time line and injury brings up a lot of last years info... For once I hope I'm getting the wrong info here and elsewhere.... Good Luck Kris! Go Friars!

Dunn was a McD's all american. According to all the reports, he made great strides this off season after being hindered by injury last year. Not the type of player you would expect to be in school for all 4 years. IMO, deep tourny run not out of the ? if he was healthy for PC, without him...who knows.
