Be prepared for about 50 fouls per game and say 100 free throws.

Give it a week or two and it'll be fine.

I think it'll take 2-3 weeks but the players will adjust. They'll have to.

McDermott was 11-14 from the free throw line in 24 minutes of play. The way he plays he could lead the nation in scoring just from the free throw line.

I've only been to 1 half of game so far but it was dreadful, if they call the college game this way we might as well put the peach baskets back up on the barn. I can live with the block - charge rule change which was long over due but the hand and arm check fouls will set the game back to the peach basket.

either that or the game will get opened up and become a lot more free flowing.

It's going to have to be. Physical play is being legislated out of the game.
Big East Basketball is what it's always been. Great competition nightly.
If the Atlantic 10 didn't suck, why is everyone looking for the exits?
There is a reason why the A-10 left a team in the Central Time Zone...SLU, your move.

I can go and watch layup drilles 30 min prior to tip. Defenders aren't going to catch on this year so it's a foul line parade. The NFL allows corners to check receivers within 5 yards of the line of scrimmage, here is the rule Within this five-yard zone, a defensive player may chuck an eligible player in front of him. A defensive player is allowed to maintain continuous and unbroken contact within the five-yard zone until a point when the receiver is even with the defender,[b], if they didn't allow this contact it would be a bonanaza for the wide outs and all the record books would have to be rewritten. The basketball checks should have something similar, preventing penetration via handcheck is 1 thing, but reaching out to the offensive player with your hand or forearm has always been an integral part of defending and then you add the new block/charge interpretation and you've got either a lay up drill or a parade to the charity stripe. I'm not interested in either scenario and I predict the coaches and fans alike will find the change unacceptable.

Everyone says they will adjust, but I don't think people understand exactly how hard it is. These kids have been taught to play defense this way for 10 years. As I said in another thread, as a defender I was always taught to use my forearm/hands to prevent the offensive player from getting into my body. Never to hand check, push, or anything like that, but to build a wall in order to keep my cushion intact. It's not easy to simply change how you play defense in a few weeks. Again, I agree that there were problems with hand checks and holding and it was starting to get out of hand. But there is no need to get rid of legal physical defense on the perimeter altogether to eliminate that.

I am guessing Creighton may benefit from new rule?
