Not quite, but almost. They were also protecting their interests with Penn State, which I guess there was some fear they could lose them if not proactive about the East coast. While understood, B1G fans view it as weakening the conference. I'm closely tied to Wisconsin and Michigan fandom, and I know any number of people cursing it or calling for a reversal. ...but applauding it? None. Nebraska, though, that was a well liked move.

Well B1G fans aren't the most forward thinking bunch and hate change. This is a good move seeing as how the area they control has a rapidly declining population while those two areas are densely populated and full of B1G alum.

"Rapidly declining" is a bit of an exaggeration. I'm not familiar with most of the Midwestern states, but Wisconsin grew by 6% over the last decade. Is it growing as quickly as some states? No. But we certainly aren't "rapidly declining".

The region is declining in population. The last census has shown that more folks are leaving the midwest and heading to the southwest and southeast.
