And they don't play football either!
(I'm joking).

yeah, Vermont is a good little program. Since 2002, they've won at least 20 games all but 3 times(and one of those 3 times, they won 19 and made the tourney). Last 2 years they've finished 63 and 76 in Ken Pom.

I agree, Vermont has been great for a long stretch.
Good topic, just funny in March, during the BE Tourney, to discuss this minute detail.

Well, if St John's had played say Vermont this year in their exempt tournament- NET ranking of 76, instead of even Bowling Green- NET rating of 114- with a win for Vermont vs UMBC that could have become a Q2 win for St John's- and that might have helped St John's make the tourney this year..... OOC and OOC scheduling is so crucial IMO.

Sources: Virginia will face UMass and Arizona State will play St. John's in the first round of the 2019 Hall-of-Fame Classic at Mohegan Sun. #SJUBB

Looks like we'll get to put a whooping on Mr. Hurley! ;)

St. John’s made the tourney this year Stever. Can’t refute facts.

Yeah, we made it because of our 12-1 OOC which included a Q1 win vs VCU, irrelevant loss @ Duke and and 23 NET. Certainly not because of our atrocious Big East performance (8-10, NET >100), which pushed us to the extreme edge of the bubble.

That said, we got really lucky to go 12-1 and it was a stupid schedule to make. So many of the teams like VCU vastly over-performed relative to pre-season expectations, and even then the SOS still sucked. I'm glad to see we'll have some breathing room this year. Those first 12 games were super stressful. Nobody wants to play 12 must win games in a row.

A 21 win Big East team with 5 Quad 1 wins and a 7-7 record away from home makes the tourney as the last team in- in a year where the bubble was one of the absolute worst ever. Those numbers show just how bad the schedule was-because 21 win Big East teams with 5 Q1 wins and a .500 record away from home normally wear white in rd 1.

Maybe if you had played a real OOC schedule, conference play wouldn't have been so bad. Were not battle tested outside of a game with VCU where 99% of the time, VCU is going to the line for 3 free throws to win the game in overtime.

what's going to be bad for St John's is with the team they're going to have this year, they've got a schedule like they should have had this past year. And vice versa.

Still can't admit you were wrong lol. The reason we were the last team in was because our margins during BE play were horrific. Again, our NET during conference play was >100 and truthfully we should've won 6 or 7 games rather than 8 if you go by points differential. We got much worse as the season went on and teams figured us out. We never had a response because the makeup of our team, along with our game plans, were extremely flawed. Our OOC play is ironically what saved us as it kept our NET from going too out of control.

You tried mocking me for months for suggesting that 9 BE wins could get us in. In reality 8 did, and that is also along with terrible margins (NET). Why can't you just admit the OOC was a net benefit for us last year? It's a fact.

Not sure of the validity, but a rumor was posted on the SHU free board that Michigan State will finally participate in the Gavitt Games this year.

Hosted by Seton Hall.

As if the schedule wasn't already loaded enough. Wow.
