Xavier's certainly going to have a good team, don't get me wrong. It's possible that they could end up being better than SHU by season's end - I just don't see enough to predict it right now. They have more roster turnover (including about twice as much lost production) and while the recruiting class is nice, freshman aren't often game changers. If the grad and freshman adequately replace the lost production they should be better than last year and be an NCAA team, but it's reasonable to expect both teams to be better than they were last year.

Yea, we’ll see. And I’m not sure we can tout obiagu as a game changer yet. Basically had the same line as romaro gill last year. Great shot blockers but both had their drawbacks.

Or it can be argued that finishing 2nd isn't all that meaningful when the 5th place team is one game behind. We may not see a big separation between 2nd and 3rd like we saw the past couple of seasons.

Xavier will have the most experienced starting 5 in the BEast and it’s highly likely that they will all be 1000 point scorers come March. Not to mention that the “core 4” will probably be playing professionally somewhere in late 2020, so X will certainly have the horses to win a championship. However, the bench is a major question mark. Should have several backcourt options with Moore and Tandy/Bishop but unless someone (a freshman) emerges as a productive back up for Tyrique Jones, the other “Bigs” in the conference will have their way when he’s not on the floor.

On a side note, very little being said about the Hoyas. Akinjo, McClung and LeBlanc are the most impressive trio of freshman to hit the BEast in a long time. Akinjo is already the best assist guy in the league. Mac is your classic “JP type” gunslinger and LeBlanc has the makings of a double/double machine. Add that to an underrated Jamorko Pickett, a solid bench and you have a bonafide contender. Oh.....and along comes Yurtseven!!
Wisdom is what you get 5 seconds after you needed it.

When I say game changer, I'm referring to the presence of a great shot blocker pretty much always altering the way an opponent attacks. We saw it last year with Gill, who was very limited in his minutes but played some very impactful ones. We'll see if he can do enough on the offensive end to be a net positive, but being able to have a 7 footer on the floor at nearly all times is a huge weapon for an already strong defense.

Well, I think the important difference is that Gill did it as a 24-year-old while Obiagu did it as a 19-year-old and has had a year with the training staff to develop since. Having them both to rotate anchoring the defense should be a nice luxury.

Adding Jason Carter nearly 17/7 for OU, 17 against X and Bryce Moore 7 ppg before his injury should fill the lost production. Obviously, X fans think Naji, Scruggs, Goodin and Jones will play much better this year after a year with the new Coach. I definitely think KYKY will contribute. Kid can fly.
