If UConn dropped football tomorrow, they would be in. But they won't, so they won't

Let's see if Val can navigate the UConn issue. I bet she can better than the Presidents without her.

There is nothing for Val to navigate. UConn plays FBS football. They are not and should not be a candidate.

Can we please end the expansion babble....

We all know that UCONN has a 0% chance of getting in with FBS. We all know who the likely expansion teams are if expansion ever occurs, and we all know that every school has their pluses and minuses. At this point the league is not expanding until further notice. NoderDamer is a likely troll... we get one post a month from some odd poster who mentions Duquesne and then disappears never to be heard from again. The board then wastes another 2 weeks arguing the merits first of Duquesne and then other expansion potentials and then the non-expansion contingent misread something and blame me.... over and over again..... please refer to the previous 100,000 posts on expansion candidates and cease debating such nonsense. now i'm going to get yelled at by the no-expansion contingent again for something else i didn't say.

'Zactly. The only discussion that Ackerman should have, if she even has one at all, is to tell UConn that "if you drop football, give us a call."

There is no way to navigate the football issue. FBS football schools have constant dollars in their eyes because of the potential money that football can generate. As a result, they will naturally keep their head on a swivel, always looking to cash in, so they can't be trusted. I'd compare it to dating a stripper and expecting her to be faithful to you. You can act shocked when they disappoint you all you want, but you were the idiot who expected the impossible.

UConn is a boost to the league. NYC, TV, MSG. It's what we need.

It doesn't mean the conference needs UConn to be credible. Or it will fail if we don't have UConn. We'll just be better with UConn. And FBS isn't a threat to these 10 schools.

Nova will eventually step up to FBS football. What then?

11 teams. 20 game conference schedule.

Nova will never step up to FSB football. Their best chance to do so passed and there is no way they will make the jump now with no access to the top level. To say that Nova will be an FSB program at this point is a pipe dream. You do not want schools in your league that are looking to leave. That is what creates instability and makes the conference look weak. UConn would constantly be looking for a better opportunity - the Big East should not be a holding pattern for schools - it must be a destination.

Nice editorial on how the Big East and other conferences like the Big Ten are more than just athletics...

Another reason I like Richmond (or even Davidson) to be the potential partner for St. Louis if 12 happens. Very good schools, and expands the conference footprint down south towards the heart of the ACC.

St Johns will never make it to a final four.

Ok, never is a long time. Neither will happen in the next few years. But both have a chance of happening someday. Although St Johns odds are longer.
