Fox Sports 1 weekend discussion thread

I've been pretty busy this weekend, but here's my perspective on the channel.

As a UFC (almost as much as Marquette) I really enjoyed the pre-fight programming. The production values of both the fights and the commentary were outstanding. Having spoken with many other UFC fans, the general consensus is that the premiere installment was a rousing success. 1.7 million of us tuned in and were not disappointed by both the on-air product and the fights.

In regards to the other shows, I really like the college football programming, and Fox Sports Live was comparable to Sports Center (in my opinion). I was not impressed with Crowd Goes Wild. Overall, though, I don't think I'll miss ESPN.

I'm not really a NASCAR fan, so I won't speak to that.

Like Fox Sports Live although there is definitely room for improvement.

Crowd Goes Wild was an absolute train wreck in my opinion. Regis was pretty brutal. Only reason to watch that show would be for Georgie Thompson and Michael Kostas who is pretty funny.

I watched their college football preview and thought it was pretty good, didn't get a chance to watch the daily college football show yet.

The best thing that CGW has going for it is that it's not Around the Horn - that show is awful (although I do like PTI).

Last night FS Live had a live in-studio interview with Mike Tyson. It was a great interview. Very laid back with Gary Payton, Andy Roddick, Donovan McNabb, Charissa (sp) Thompson (sp) and Tyson, with a lot of joking and good camaraderie. Tyson was pretty candid and seemed very comfortable and at ease.

If they can regularly get athletes to come into the studio for an 8 to 10 minute discussion like that, then it will go a long way. I think tonight Peyton Manning is scheduled, so I guess Manning will be on a giant TV screen, which won't be as good.

I caught Fox Sports Live this morning getting ready for work (due to old habits I watched Sportscenter Monday because I forgot about the switch). I'm not quite sure what the show is supposed to be. Is it supposed to be a highlight/Scores show (ala Sportscenter), a roundtable show (like Best Damn Sports Show), a hybrid, or something else?

I may speak for the minority, but I want to see the highlights, scores, and analysis of stories around the sports world. Especially when I'm getting ready in the morning. So far the show feels more like Good Morning America - Sports Edition. I'm ok with a program like "Live" if I also get some sort of program that gives me just the highlights, scores, and analysis. It took forever to get any sort of scores this morning. Though I did get to hear more analysis of Tyson biting Holyfield's ear (which is now ten years old).

I don't have cable at the moment, but I look forward to seeing these two as anchors again when we get back on. The format with the discussion seems odd, instead of just letting those two have at it, but I'll have to see it. Is it like two separate shows or is there interaction between the two sides? As to what Muskie was saying, it would make sense to me if they edited out the panel for some reruns. Puts emphasis on seeing it live and provides a concise highlight package in other slots.

On Sundays, it will just be Jay and Dan and last Sunday, they just did highlights w/humor. I thought it was a good show. I agree, the panel disrupts the flow.

The Crowd Goes Wild needs to go away...it could do a lot of harm to a group trying to be an ESPN. The idea is stupid and will get bad reviews from sports fanatics as FS1 endlessly teases it. I watched a couple hours of Sunday evening programming and would give FS1 some good grades and not so good grades but for their 1st Sunday night you would have to come away impresssed. In general I like the way Fox presents sports and I'm not a huge fan of some of ESPN's talking heads so I'm in play if Fox can put together a decent hour long sports center clone.

From what I saw of FS1, it's pretty solid programming. Good luck to all those on it this year (even the teams I don't like )

Of course, I watch a lot of Fox because of another sports team in STL.

I found Fox Sports Live to be much better this morning. Much more info on scores and highlights and smooth transitions to the round table and interview segments (although I'm not sure what value Gary Payton truly brings to the discussion). More towards Sportscenter (in a good way) than Good Morning America.
