I agree.

"All told, five Marquette athletes were accused in sexual attacks last school year by three female students. University officials have said the athletes all were punished for breaking the student code of conduct and team rules, and none was barred from competition due to the allegations."

Huge black eye on the school, let alone the program. Yet, there was huge push by then administration to move on from Buzz Williams, DESPITE the on-court success, including an Elite Eight and two Sweet 16s. This awful situation was one of the main reasons MU hired Wojo - a scandal-free, buttoned-up, successful clean recruiter.

Despite all of that, it still changes nothing that DePaul just hired an unproven head coach, with no ties to the area or conference, who has publicly admitted to recruiting players with more than questionable pasts, and who ended up causing a major scandal for the university.

Between that and the FBI/Bowen scandal, I'm shocked he lasted as long at Oregon as he did.

he has some connection to the conference... he was an assistant at Cincinnati for 4 years when they were in the BE. I would assume he must have some connections in the area as a "high level recruiter" as well

.

One could say, it was a reason Wojo kept his job so long. Per Goodman, Wojo was asked to make staff changes. Wojo said, no. MU said, goodbye. Year 8, was very possible.

If I understand your point correctly, you're saying that Marquette fans have a right to judge DePaul for hiring a coach who recruited players who were later accused of sexual assault because:

1. When Marquette student-athletes were accused of sexual assault, the school was so unhappy about it that they gave very strong consideration to not letting the athletes in question play in games. (...but decided to let them play, anyway.)

2. They thought seriously about disciplining Buzz Williams. (...but decided to keep him around for three more seasons.)

3. They made sure that the coach they hired three years later was clean.

I stand corrected. Marquette serves as a shining beacon of all that is right and pure about college athletics and should be held up as an example for all. I just pray that we are not judged too harshly by our moral superiors for failing to live up to their lofty standards.

Despite all of that, it still changes nothing that DePaul just hired an unproven head coach, with no ties to the area or conference

Yeah, I don't know who you think DePaul should have hired that was:

1. Available.

2. Interested.

I have a good idea about who they talked to. It was a collection of career assistants, unproven mid-major head coaches, slightly more proven low-major head coaches, and has-beens. Experienced, high-major head coaches weren't interested. A lot of the mid-major head coaches you might think would have made sense for DePaul weren't interested, because it's a crappy job. The school is trying very hard to make it less crappy, but we're not there yet.

So, yeah... some risk-taking was always going to be part of the equation. And in DePaul's case, their risk is on a proven high-level recruiter who is an unproven (...not to be confused with bad) X's and O's guy. And yeah, they have to hope that he listens when they tell them that as a Catholic school, they're gonna have more of an issue with recruiting student-athletes who have been accused of sexual assault than Dana Altman and Oregon did.

Between that and the FBI/Bowen scandal, I'm shocked he lasted as long at Oregon as he did.

Now you're just trolling.

In case you're wondering how the off-season is going in Lincoln Park...

Guards
Charlie Moore - Hasn't said anything publicly about whether or not he'll be back.
Javon Freeman-Liberty - Hasn't said anything publicly about whether or not he'll be back.
Ray Salnave - In the transfer portal.
Kobe Elvis - In the transfer portal.
Oscar Lopez - In the transfer portal.
Markese Jacobs - Coming off his 2nd torn ACL in three years. Has said he'll return.
Brett Hardt (HS SR) - Hasn't said anything publicly about whether or not he'll enroll.

Forwards
Romeo Weems - Hasn't said anything publicly about whether or not he'll be back.
Pauly Paulicap - In the transfer portal.
Darious Hall - In the transfer portal.
David Jones - Hasn't said anything publicly about whether or not he'll be back.
Keon Edwards - In the transfer portal.
Kok Yat (HS SR) - Hasn't said anything publicly about whether or not he'll enroll.

Centers
Nick Ongenda - In the transfer portal.
Jaylen Butz - In the transfer portal.

If you made me guess, I'd say Moore, Freeman-Liberty, and Weems are back, along with Markese Jacobs. Brett Hardt is probably still coming, although at this point, I'd say anything they get out of Jacobs or Hardt is probably a bonus. I'm not at all confident that any of the kids who are in the transfer portal will return. Jones and Yat are probably 50/50 at best.

So, yeah... I'd say the new staff is probably looking at trying to sign at least six or seven kids via the transfer portal. Fun times.

Per his Instagram account, Romeo Weems will declare for the NBA Draft and hire an agent.

So, that is... uh... certainly... a decision.

Charlie Moore has entered the transfer portal.

At this point, it's easier to list the players on the roster who haven't entered the portal:

Javon Freeman-Liberty
Markese Jacobs
David Jones

...and that's it. DePaul still waiting to hear from two HS Seniors who signed LOIs... Brett Hardt and Kok Yat.

Gonna be a whole new roster next season.
