Link to Cooley’s intro press conference:

And Providence apparently tried to poach JT Jr back in the day:

I don't know how you call a guy whose won 3 NCAA tournament games in his entire career as a head coach - an elite coach? Good coach, sure - he can get to the tournament. But elite coaches advance and he can't do that.

On the Hoya message boards, most fans were calling for Pitino. But it seemed unlikely that President DeGioia would go that route.
They could have done a lot worse than Cooley, who is a good coach.

Can’t? Hasn’t doesn’t = can’t.

Pitino didn't want to leave NYC at his age. He wanted the St. John's job prior to accepting the coaching position at Iona and the Johnnies hiring Mike Anderson. Georgetown really never had a chance at Pitino, regardless of a handful of reports stating otherwise.

I, too, do not view Cooley as an elite coach. Solid coach? Yes. Elite? Nope.

Providence was always my second favorite BE team, but this league needs rivalries and to move beyond the kumbaya crap that has infected us since the breakup. If this helps move us beyond that I’m happy to add Providence to the list of Cuse, Nova and UConn.

I’m not going to go search for it, but apparently Providence tried to poach JT Jr back in the late 80s. Suck it friars!

Just FYI... no biggie, just explaining Friar fans' thought process. We've had to read posts like this one, along with the creepy Casual Hoya guy talking sh-t... we kept quiet about Ed's issues for what's been a loooong couple of days. All of us told to suck it, etc, by the shittiest fanbase in the country.

Finally some Providence people just didn't want to hear the sh-t anymore, you know?

Cannot wait for next season. Have not felt this way in almost 8 years . Not a single person I’d want over cooley . He gets Georgetown . He’s ready to tap in to the potential for this program. JT3 had it rolling for a decade or so but it’s going to be back and maybe even better then he had it

Expectations? After freaking Ewing? How about winning more than 2 games haha. I just want to see improvement would love some tourney appearances in the next 2-3 years but progress

Go Hoyas . Sorry PC

You can spread your rumors and do whatever you want but all it does is make you look like a bitter ex girlfriend

You were doing fine until your last 2 sentences. Why the gratuitous slap in the face? I assume you’re an adult? Kind of childish.

You’re getting a coach whose life is in crisis. It’s not about his coaching ability but about what he’s able to do right now. You saw how his PC team fell apart down the stretch. Don’t be surprised if he’s not all you hoped for.

I’ve seen some truly disgusting things from PC fans online (mostly Twitter)

I get being mad at Cooley but I personally think it’s a low blow to throw the man’s family under the bus for making a business decision

Sorry …I like PC . ALWAYS have . Respect the fanbase and program and the overall city of Providence

I hope english gets the friars rolling like they were under cooley

Sorry for the last comment
