The trouble with creating an ESPN challenger is and always will be live content. The trouble is that EVERYONE is trying to create THEIR OWN challenger. With everyone fragmented, no one can take down the giant.

I often wonder what it would look like if FS1 and NBCSN were one sports network and combined their portfolios. On one channel (or two related properties), you would have

Big East Basketball
Major League Baseball
The NHL (including the Stanley Cup Playoffs)
English Premier League
Big 12 and Pac-12 Football
Big 12 and Pac-12 Basketball
Major League Soccer
UEFA Champions League
CONCACAF Champions League
CONCACAF Gold Cup
UEFA Europa League
UEFA European Qualifiers
Formula 1 Racing
The 2015 and 2019 FIFA Womens' World Cup
The 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cup
The 2016, 2018, 2020, 2022, 2024, 2026, 2028, 2030, and 2032 Olympic Games
French Open (tennis)
FA Cup
PGA Tour
The US Open (golf)
NASCAR
UFC
Mid-Major college football, basketball, and hockey

as well as

Crossover content from Big Ten Network?
2016 World Cup of Hockey?
Notre Dame Football?
Al McGuire: "What is this?"
Waiter: "Mr. McGuire, that is a cull lobster. Sometimes when the lobsters are in the tank, they fight. This one lost a claw."
Al McGuire: "Well then take this one away and bring me the winner."

I would also throw in CBSSN. They have MWC football- and A10,MWC, and AAC basketball. This network would have then of the top 9 conferences BE, P12, A10, MWC, and AAC- so 5/9.

Also they have US Open Tennis and some Minor League Baseball. On the other hand don't think they have French Open Tennis any longer(think that's all ESPN now).

Your point is a very good one. I think a very underated- but very important thing is you would have 2 channels. So like the other day when MLB went real late(18 inning game) wouldn't have to move the UFC to another network- just move to the 2nd channel.

Also would put as a combined property the Swimming and Track World Championships(every other year).

one other thing that seems small- but I think it's got a pretty devoted following- is the Tour de France. NBCSN has had that for about 15 years now.

+1
I still believe Fox will make another run at Time Warner. I think they'll eventually succeed. We've already talked about the property available to FS1 and FS2 in that merger in addition to Big East Basketball:
NBA Thursday Night Package and Playoffs
MLB Playoffs and Regular Season
UFC on Wednesdays
Big 12 and PAC 12 Football on Saturdays and occasional weekdays
World Cup Soccer
NASCAR (??? - does NBC take all rights in a few years?)

Well said. FS1 has a strong college football line-up this Saturday.

Cards-Giants Game 2 drew 4.367M viewers, now most watched event in Fox Sports 1 history. Should be great ratings tonight as well. Hopefully the series goes 7.

I didn't see any. I doubt they promo Big East till end of October/November. Right now it's "Foxtoberfest" with MLB, UFC, College Football and US Womens Soccer.

last year by this time they had already started promoting the Big East I think...

Think the series likely goes 5 if the Giants win tonight. Think the Molina injury was a killer.

I can not rememeber where I saw it, but someone once had "Running of the bulls" from Pamplona that was awesome! Throw that in there as well!
