Those decisions will be football decisions, not BB ones. The ACC did not gain all that much adding Pitt and Cuse. College football is still a southern-centric sport and the Fl St., Clemson, VT, Miami's of the conference will not be interested in adding another northern based school--especially one that has not had any success of late. B1G thought Rutgers was delivering the NY market. Yeah, not so much. The Penn St. and Michigan alums probably make more of an impact on TV's in NYC. B12? No chance. So with a move out of the AAC which is the next best FB conference out of the football P5, this is a move that basically signals that UConn is stepping off the FBS dance floor.

They are certainly football decisions, but I still think a small part of the ACC wanted the Big East to become mid-major so they could get MSG and own the Northeast. Fortunately we boxed them out last year and secured MSG long-term (even without UConn). If the ACC ever wants to truly defeat the Big East and take over MSG then they'd need to poach multiple teams (Villanova, UConn, and maybe St. John's or Georgetown) which will obviously never happen.

UConn's Big East exit fee will be $30 million for the first 6 years, $15 million for the first 10, or $10 million after that. UConn will be here for a long time.

Uconn should only play Syracuse H&H and stop giving them MSG games. This is what Georgetown does and what Nova did. Let them rot in the tobacco road for all eternity.

I think the exit fee is fair. I'm not sure why people are so scared of uconn leaving? It's only natural for them to keep that 1% ACC chance open. In the unlikely event that uconn is invited to the ACC in the future, hopefully another program or two has elevated itself by that point to be slam dunk expansion candidates.

Going to be weird rooting for UConn going forward. I will certainly root for UConn to win the AAC next year, and I think even OOC I'll root for them (besides when they're playing Big East members).

This all feels so surreal and sooner than I expected, but thrilled to have UConn on board!

Dude relax, it sounds like you're having an orgasm for uconn, like they're the conf savior

I appreciate all the good insight from this board. But I think people are falling for groupthink on this one. There were lots of good reasons UConn was kicked out of the conference in the first place. Little has changed. I'm surprised more people aren't talking about the downsides of this decision, which are significant. The goal of including "like-minded colleges and universities..." with similar fit should come before the goal of an earlier contract renegotiation and more money. The original Big East members have shown great judgment over the years with their leadership of the conference, but I think this decision is motivated by money and nostalgia. It's a big mistake.

This is like reuniting with your alcoholic ex-spouse. Only in this scenario, the ex-spouse is still a drunk. Why would you expect this turn with UConn to result in a better outcome?

Doesn't really matter much what a few message board posters think though, does it. It's happening.

Also...we didn't kick them out, we left and they decided to stay in a football conference. They're now coming back, hat in hand, saying "y'all were right". We're (mostly) Catholic here...parable of the prodigal son says we should be out killing goats and preparing a feast!

I have a few UConn friends so I'm really happy to renew the rivalry and go to MSG games with them. I'm also looking forward to increases in our TV contract, rating, attendance, revenue, etc which will benefit all of us. Sorry that the thought of UConn bothers you so much, but you need to accept that most of us are excited. UConn is home! :)
