The Johnnies take on Div 2 San Fransisco State (Lav's alma mater) at 3pm est on ESPN3 in what I believe is the first national broadcast for the BE 2.0. Even though it's only an exhibition, we finally we get to see games!

SJU won by 2...82-80. SF st shoot the lights out. Notes:

- SJU has a ton of new players to get adjusted to playing together.
- No defense by Johnnies.
- Jordan has a nasty game & a killer instinct. He may may become the leader of the team by end of season or sooner.

By 2? Hmm......I'm a little worried about Wisconsin now.

Lots for St. John's to work on. They really should be further along than this after their european trip.
And this wasn't St. John's playing a lot of people who won't see playing time. They had what would seem to be a normal rotation minus Obepka. It just seems like all the question marks opposing fans have pointed out have not been answered and on top of that they didn't play any defense today and that was what they were good at last year.

I'm sure they'll improve, but it was not an encouraging outing.

Was at the game and it was ugly. I would not expect the line-up Lavin used generally on the floor tonight. He was doing a lot of mixing. The main problem was the defense which they are usually good with so I don't anticipate a big problem going forward on that end. Harrison, Jordan, Pointer and Sanchez looked good. Everyone else was a bit off. Another tune up Monday night. Would rather get the kinks out now rather than when the season starts.

As far as preseason goes this is worrisome. That said, it is an exhibition game so the most I think anyone should be concerned is a 2. We all believe that St. John's has the talent, so hopefully this is just a wake up call for them and Lavin can use it for a lot of quality teaching moments for his still very young team.

Harrison looked like he was fighting himself the whole game especially after splitting those two free throws at the end.

Very odd and scary: this was the exact kind of game we played last year. A much inferior D-2 opponent comes in our house after flying 3,000 miles, and looks like the much better team for most of the game. They are lights out from 3, and kill us in the paint. On Redmen.com, they just don't get it. Reading that forum is like drinking from a gigantic jug of kool-aid. You will hear "Oh, it's only an exhibition", "Oh, at least we won", "Oh, well the D-2 team was actually good…give them credit", "Oh, well we still have time to work out the kinks", etc.

People, this is absolutely a cause for concern at the least and alarming at most. There are unfortunately many SJ fans who won't admit how bad it is, but fortunately I don't mind being honest. I love this team, but I won't let them piss on my leg and call it rain. I'm sick and tired of this team chock full of ESPN100 recruits crapping the bed against bums. Yes, bums. SFSU is a mediocre D-2 school. No other way to spin that. We should have beat them by at least 20 with the talent difference. Every other Big East team from Nova to PC, to SHU handled their business and pounded the inferior opponents as expected. SJ was the ONLY one that struggled mightily. People say UNLV lost theirs…first of all they aren't in the Big East, and they are technically a mid-major, so it's not that as shocking. People bring up Cuse losing to LeMoyne years ago then going on to the Sweet 16. Ok, folks…but that's Cuse. They have proven they are the elite over and over. SJ hasn't. We are still waiting for that.

Even scarier to note is that this isn't some sudden thing. Last year, while the final score may tell otherwise, SJ also struggled mightily against D-2 and D-3 schools in exhibitions. What are the odds….is SJ just a little nervous and playing with nerves? Or are they actually just setting us up for disappointment again since NO OTHER Big East team even played their cupcakes close? Look at the margins of victory the other schools pulled out. Compare that to our's vs. SFSU, and we look like we belong more D-2 than Big East. Until this team can score in the paint consistently, and stop 3 pointers from absolutely killing us every game, we are going to be embarrassing to watch some games.
