Who Will Lead Our Conference This Year?

As a power conference, ahem; we can't have years like this. All due respect to the Johnnies, Marquette, and DePaul...but imo they need to, but can't sustain their early successes.

The conference cannot have all of its' power teams (Nova, Xavier, Providence, Seton Hall, Butler- as shown over the last 5 years) all having down seasons concurrently. Slumps need to be
staggered and spread out. Now, as we know, this was not a planned year nor event, but the fact that it is occurring simultaneously is the worst possible case. 1 or 2 teams slumping is acceptable,
but not all five.

Now if StJ and Marquette can somehow sustain their early success it will temper the effect of the top tiers' fading. C'mon Marquette and St Johns...hold back the tide, put your
fingers in the dike wall, shore up those levees. The conference needs you to excell. I'd like to blame recruiting...but we as a conference are doing well. It is the unexpected
departure of so many underclassmen that is the problem. Most BE teams recruit for 4 year guys and generally those guys stay the course. But the recent - last 2-3 years - flight of underclass players to the pros,
along with normal attrition, has left the conference in this mess. The resulting scenario has every pundit saying the "BE is down", including all of our internal experts (fans).

Could we be looking at a case where the rs champs have 5-6 conf losses? A 20-14 up to 22-9 BE Champion? Geez Louise, that's bad, but it is a distinct possibility. C'mon Marquette and St Johns...time to step up to the opportunity.
The conference needs you to excell (no pressure) to maintain our status quo!

meanwhile...at the back of the class - a hand is raised...

gitmo,

i am really hoping my johnnies can step up and carry the torch this year.....i still don't have a solid read on the team even though we are undefeated.....our performance has been very up and down.....there are times i think we can compete for the big east title and other times i feel like we're still likely to finish in the bottom half.....i'm generally an optimist so i'm hoping for the former......i think marquette is going to do great things this year....i also think butler and the hall will be really good....i am still thinking 5 bids this year.....remember, the pac 12 is awful this year and the aaaaaaaaaaaaaac is not going to steal bids from the power 6.....

Don't worry, Myles Powell's about to go all Kemba Walker on you guys and lead The Hall to the title. Then he's gonna come back for his senior year and do it again. 8-)

Great news - both posts. Conference appears to need new standard bearers this year. Go Hall, Marquette, and Johnnies...and anyone else who wants the job!

Could easily see the BE regular season champ(s) having a record of 12-6 this year. Not one team stands out as the clear cut favorite, with a bunch of teams vying for that role, St. John's, Marquette, Nova, Butler, Seton Hall?. While DePaul, Xavier, Georgetown look like the bottom 3. Wouldn't surprise me one bit to see Nova Wright the ship and win another BE regular season title.

Surprise me? Nah, I’m expecting it Westbrook. The Cremo will rise to the top. I do agree that there may be a 12-6ish type champ.

I agree that it's hard to see anyone running away with it this year. Nobody looks invincible and even the teams struggling right now look like they can be dangerous on their day.

Anti Big East fans want to place us on a freakin hamster wheel, running frenetically in perpetuity. Chasing impossible-to-reach goalposts. So why are you falling for this shit?

I mean, yeah, we have a 40-year-old virgin who is a human freak show peppering us hourly with doom and gloom. The sheer quantity of shit he evacuates from his fingertips is insane.

We also have ESPN Pravda piping anti-Big-East propaganda over the Berlin Wall 24/7. So yeah, that can have an influence too.

But c'mon.

Eight months ago, Villanova, a school that finished second in the Big East regular season, and which needed overtime to win the Big East Finals... they won a National Championship with all six NCAA games being won by double digits. Kicking the shit out of the competition. That hadn't been done since the Cheatin Tarheels of 2009. Not sure when it had happened prior to that.

This season at this point is a complete toss-up. The conference is strong and it's balanced. Each of is well over 500, each with wins over teams from the other 5 power conferences. None of us have horrible losses.

What is there not to like?

Creighton... what was their bad loss? We know that they're young. We know they would hit some speed bumps as they improved. They've lost to 4 great teams... Ohio State, Nebraska, Gonzaga, and Oklahoma. They've beaten Clemson, who was ranked and was all lined up for the ESPN fellatio treatment. They also have actually good wins against lesser-regarded teams like Montana, ETSU, Green Bay, and others.

Again, there are pundits and dimwits who we will never satisfy. Their teams and/or conferences suck, and they try to drag us down to their sorry pathetic level. They inhabit Frankenstein-esque nonsensical conferences like the ACC, where they're completely miserable...

Seriously, please name any Syracuse fan who truly feels like watching Clemson or Wake Forest run around the Carrier Dome. Please find any Syracuse fan that wants to trek around fuckin Brooklyn instead of MSG. Or hang out in fuckin Greensboro North Carolina, a freakin truckstop with Denny's and Cracker Barrel. Lol, c'mon.

Enjoy the ride here in the Big East... sending guys to the NBA, winning National Championships, packing our arenas, watching the top talent in the nation every night on our own FS1 network... balanced, bruising, real, competitive, and bad ass.
