I think Pitino is using us for a publicity stunt.

I would think that the AD had a replacement lined up before they let things out that CM was moving on to greener pastures. At least I hope he did!

Go big or go home New York. Very rarely do you get an opportunity to hire one of 3 greatest college bb coach in history who can win without NBA players. If Pitino is willing, you have to go for it. Otherwise, see if Phil Jackson is available.

I don't see it happening. The Prosecutor's Office in the Southern District of New York is not big on apologies.

Rick Pitino says he would revitalize St. John's basketball, but wants an apology first - Sam Cooper, Yahoo Sports - April 9, 2019
“I would bring St. John’s to the elite level not seen since Louie [Carnesecca] roamed the sidelines,” Pitino told Adam Zagoria on Tuesday morning.

But before Pitino would even consider St. John’s (and there’s no reason to believe SJU is interested, by the way), he wants an apology.

For real.

“Before that could ever happen, the Southern District of New York would have to apologize for ruining an innocent man’s reputation by putting his name in a complaint. So good luck to my hometown University because that’s not happening,” Pitino told Zagoria.

a Catholic school would never hire Rick Pitino. I wouldn't mind.

Seriously. At the very least, you would want to know that key candidates have interest in the job before making this move.

Catholicism is all about forgiveness though. In some ways, St John's might be his best possibility at coaching again. It'd be really entertaining w him returning to MSG. For the conference it would be fantastic. Then again, poaching Hurley from a P5 football school would be great optics.

If it was me, i'd pursue:
1 Pitino
2 Billy Donovan
3 Bobby Hurley (would be my only Duke target).
4 Jeff Van Gundy

All the others are good:
- James Jones of Yale
- John Becker of Vermont
- Tim Cluess of Iona
- Thad Matta

i'd prefer no to any former Duke guys like Dawkins, Collins, Amaker, but yes the AD is a Duke guy.

Probably. But SJU alums working at DOJ, SDNY should press for a generic apology, just in case.

I hear Omaha is renaming it's Near North Side (just north of downtown) to "Bayville" to entice Pitino Sr.
