Just want to say that FS1 showing WWE looks freakin ridiculous. WTF? Fake sport, dumbs down the viewership. This is freakin insane.

I think it was last night when i first noticed this. St John's beat Brown. Two minutes later i'm watching two ripped women clawing at each other in their underwear-- not that i mind it visually-- but the credibility that FS1 has tried to build over the years takes a major negative hit.

TMZ is dumbass enough, but at least it's hidden at midnight... UFC was real and the fighters were skilled and tough-- a niche sport but it was legitimate...

but now, shit, this WWE is seriously fvckin insane. We'd be better off with watching Saskatchewan-ian curling tournaments or Aussie Rules. Holy crap.

Seconded. Also add Gaelic Football, Hurling and Rugby while they're at it.

Then go to the theatre or watch it on a drama series not on a sports network where you expect to see sports.

Quite the contrary. Getting WWE on Fox, and occasionally FS1, was a huge boom for the network. WWE has been getting 2-3 million viewers weekly on Fox, putting it near the top of the networks for the designated slot. When it premiered, it got 4 million. WWE Backstage has also been regularly getting audiences in the six figure range during the week on FS1, and even re-runs of Smackdown get 800k-900k.

Fox (and FS1) continue to build up a market and an audience for its sports programming. The more viewership that the network gets for other programming is only good for the Big East. They continue to advertise Big East content during Fox Football telecasts and even WWE programming.

Is WWE true sports? No - its sports entertainment, but the company has one of the most passionate and dedicated "fan" bases in the country.

Let's see, perhaps a segment of the American populus is embarrassing, not Fox's decision to give that segment what they want. Then again, I guess you could argue that "carnival entertainments" have been going on for centuries and WWE is a current version of that.

Pt 1 absolutely.

Pt 2 I agree but at the same time it was a lot easier to think it was real years and years ago now days when you have Boxing Kickboxing and MMA to fulfill your actual combat lust I don't get why people care about a fake program... which leads me back to Pt 1.

The theatre? It’s not an opera. This reaction is so over the top. There’s nothing wrong with a sports entertainment network showing an entertainment sport and there’s a lot of crossover between wrestling fans and other sports. Good move by Fox imo.

It is not over the top. Here's a personal anecdote which I believes can be put across loads of wrestling fans. When I graduated I had Chicago Golden Gloves champion 2011 and 2012 on my resume. I went to an interview where the guy said "wow that's awesome, nowhere near as violent as wrestling that's where the real contact is" at first I thought he was talking Greco Roman and he followed up by saying "I mean in wrestling you have to know how to slap, punch, hit with chairs and jump. That's the top of the contact sports."

Maybe you get some weird kick from it while understanding it's fake. But that is not the case for everybody in my experiences and putting it on a sports network only fosters that.
