The whistle shouldn't have been blown and obviously that was a huge break for the Hall, but the way they then handled the situation is what really turned it into a mess. They claimed it was a clock issue (perhaps it started a hair late, but no later than normal human reaction time IMO) but handled it like an inadvertent whistle. To those saying it should have gone to the possession arrow, I unfortunately see nothing supporting that in the NCAA Basketball rule book (if any of you know where it is, please correct me). What I see in the rule book is - since at the time of the inadvertent whistle, SJU had not gained possession yet, it was still considered in SHU possession and the ball had to be returned to them. Basically the only time when there is considered to be no team possession is after a shot attempt when nobody has secured the rebound yet. A deflected/loose ball is still considered to belong to the last team to have control of it (hence why loose ball scenarios don't reset the shot clock if the offense recovers it). Again, it still sucks for SJU because they almost certainly would have gained possession if the whistle didn't go, but at the time of the whistle they didn't have it yet.

I guess my point...it ultimately wouldn't have changed anything and wouldn't really make SJU fans feel any better about it, but rather than using the clock excuse the refs should have just admit it was an inadvertent whistle and said "sorry, we screwed up, this is how the rules require we handle it."

We literally had the refs take a SJ win and give it to Seton Hall. There are always sour fans when their team loses, but it almost never actually was the direct result of the refs making a horrid call. This was the one game no one can dispute that refs took a win from SJ. I believe they F'd up 4-5 calls in the last minute...no travel called on SHU center, illegal sub, LJ's game winning defensive play called off, and no change of possession when SJ had the arrow.

But then again, this is St. John's and we are always going to find new ways to have bad luck. Only we could go 12-0 and lose our first game in conference because the refs forced it. To be totally honest though Mullin is not a coach and never will be. This team will probably finish 9-9 or 10-8 at absolute best and miss the tournament. Fire Mullin, fire the refs, and start over...again.

Obviously we choked the game away after a blowout in the 1st half because Mullin is awful, but the refs 100% decided the game and there's zero argument against that.

Seton Hall winning is actually a good thing for the league. St. Johns is a tournament team in all the brackets right now while seton hall is barely starting to bubble up. Good showing by St. Johns I suspect them to end up top5 in the conference when its all said and done.

And let's give some credit to Shavar Reynolds. If he doesn't knock down that shot, this goes largely unnoticed and the refs escape with no criticsm. That or he goes to the line for 3 to win it and everyone goes even more apeshit.

The center took 3 obvious steps right in front of the ref, passed to an illegally subbed Reynolds. Seton Hall is going to be extremely overdue for terrible luck. Buzzer beaters, opponents missing their starting Center, refs taking over, etc. Not sold on them...they are like us last year. Will be in most games but not talented enough to finish top half IMO. We are the much more talented team, just have no coach.

Extremely overdue for terrible luck...we've only been robbed of a national championship by a bogus call. And 2 years ago against Arkansas again got knocked out of the tournament by a blown call. We've been on the other side plenty and I get it - it sucks. Unfortunately, human error is part of the game. The good news for SJU is they have plenty of time to overcome it.

Yeah this game was 100% stolen. They messed up 4 calls within 3.7 seconds. If any of those go in our favor (as they should have), we win.

After the VCU game, where is appeared Shamorie MAY have fouled the shooter on the last attempted 3, I didn't feel great about the W. Happy we won, but it certainly didn't feel well deserved. This was far worse than that, however. That ending had some gray area. This one didn't.

Team needs to rebound this week. Otherwise, time to start talking about a new coach for next year.

If I had to find one positive, at least we lost to a team that should make the Tournament. I'm bitter about the result, but don't have any ill will towards them. If the refs stole a game against DePaul, it'd be even worse for us and the league.

The refs lying about it is what’s really getting me.

I don't know Hall's history of blown calls, but you guys have had 100X more success than we have the past few years. It's a lot harder to swallow this when our fan base hasn't had anything to cheer about in years. Every time we find a bit of success, it always comes with an *. Start 12-0? No credit due to easy schedule. Beat Duke and Nova? No chance at the Tournament. Make the Tournament? CO suspended for weed. It's ridiculous.

If we still end up making the Tournament, then this game won't be seen as a big deal. But for now it's really tough to accept the outcome.
