Think about it. How many complete games has St. John's played? Like 4? maybe 5? Maybe a few early losses against better competition would've helped. I get a sense of entitltlement from this team, like they think they're better than they are.

Yeah, because Seton Hall and their tough OOC is doing so much better than we are. Zach, as a reporter, is just running with his narrative he's held since beginning of the year. It's ignoring the real problems. If the team feels entitled and can't get up for GT, after going 3-4 in the BE, that is 100% on the staff. 100%. Can't blame going undefeated in Nov/Dec for what is happening end of January. An even worse thing happened last year, where we played well during a very tough OOC and then lost 11 straight BE games. What is the common theme? Our staff.

This year we've played 10 opponents that Vegas deemed tougher than Georgetown yesterday. That includes 3 OOC opponents (VCU- n, GT- n, Rutgers- a) and all 7 conference opponents. Again, blaming the OOC is a false narrative. We got lucky OOC, as evident by the close margins, and now are reverting back to our usual selves during conference play. The OOC is the only good thing we have going for us.

Maybe the real problem is we just aren't very good and have had a very obvious leadership problem for 4 years now? Did anybody see how defeated Mullin looked yesterday? How he said essentially nothing in the huddles? How he tied his shoes for 45 seconds and said nothing while GSJ continues to "lead" us?

The large crowd yesterday just wasn't that into it. Why? It's because most of us knew that our leadership sucks and has for years. The collapses vs Hall/Nova were the first signs. Then came the home loss to DePaul and mediocre effort at Butler.

I actually didn't feel that bad after the loss, just because I know this is not the correct staff for next year and I'm a long term thinker. While making the NCAA this year would be nice short term, long term we'd be better off not making it and getting a new staff.

All I'm asking here is that we focus on the real issues and stop making excuses.

A coaching name to keep an eye on for potential Big East openings, especially our five east coast programs, is Bobby Hurley. Dan stayed home with his NE roots, but Bobby is still out West at ASU in the weakened PAC. Always seemed like a stopgap position for him.

Let's not abandon ship just yet. I bet St. John's wins at least 2 of the next 3 and gets back on track.

The narrative changes so quickly from week to week on every team. How many days ago did St John's beat now #10 Marquette by 20. Just let the season play out and decide then. SJU could easily rattle off a string of wins and in 2 weeks they'll be a tournament lock. They beat Duke last year after starting 0-11, and they have the athletes to be able to run with Duke at Cameron.

On a completely different matter totally unrelated to St John's [wink wink nudge], i had noticed that Billy Donovan extended his contract with OKC by only one year, thru the 2020 season.

Also, Rick Pitino i think is coaching in Greece.

I am no way trying to disparage any Big East team on this board.....

Especially when people's lives are in the balance......

But from recent actions and events......

I think there will be an "East Coast" opening at the end of the year.....

This staff needs to go asap. Bring Bobby back from out West and start building a program, not some hodgepodge playground garbage.

Just out of curiosity, does anybody taking the wait and see approach feel he is a good coach? How'd you feel if he was your coach (only Nova fans are excused from answering)?

I mean, it's possible Ponds goes off for 40 again vs a few good opponents and we Dance, but that wouldn't solve the underlying issues.

Mullin has been extremely stubborn/arrogant through all 4 years and doesn't put in the effort to recruit. Those two qualities in a coach are inexcusable, especially for somebody who hasn't accomplished anything at the D1 coaching level. It's rough seeing a great coach like Hurley and his entire staff show up to NYC events while we just send Matt.

Obviously if we were winning I wouldn't post this, but I was still thinking it even during our 14-1 start. What I was hoping for is that we'd have a Top 25 year and that'd be enough to entice recruits to come. That obviously won't happen, so what happens if we squeak into the Tournament and Mullin feels redeemed? Does that mean he/GSJ/Mitch will recruit even less? Stud immediately eligible transfers like Heron aren't available every year.

Anyways, I try not to overthink it too much and of course as a fan I will root for the team because players like Clark and Ponds deserve to Dance. But I genuinely think long term it'd be in the team's best interests if he wasn't coach.

Getting my rant out of the way ahead of Creighton, because you're going to see a ton of people echoing these concerns Wednesday night if we lose.

There is an interesting built-in relationship already between AD Mike Cragg and Bobby Hurley. Both have strong Duke roots, and Cragg started at Duke before Hurley came to campus. Not saying it will happen, but the pieces are definitely there if Mullin ever decided to step down.

Bobby Hurley to SJ would be the best possible hire IMO. Local guy, NJ is a recruiting hotbed, huge name recognition, still young and hungry, and would bring respectability back. From the rumor mill, Mullin will be asked by Cragg to make a coaching change aka demote Mitch who does nothing and is just his friend. He wants Mullin to add a real assistant with experience. If he refuses and that is a real possibility (known for being quite stubborn), he will resign. I'd say 70% he resigns after resisting the staff change. Knowing our luck though, some other program like UCLA will steal Hurley and give him some ungodly amount we can't match. If Mullin resigns we can pay him the 2 mil he's making at ASU, however how badly does he want to be close to home? For some people it doesn't really matter and for others it's a huge deal. If Bobby Hurley can't solve our puzzle, no one can.
