Wright can complain and get away with it, since he's Jay Wright. Mullin complains a ton and he hasn't done anything to earn respect as a coach yet. Don't think it works in our favor, but it does appear to work for Wright.

Another bad game for Creighton, highly doubt they'll make the Tournament at this point. Great win for Hall, though.

I guess fans see what they want to see. Because my perceptions of both Wojo and Cooley the last two games were: "man those guys cry to the refs an awful lot." I am not going to act like Jay doesn't work the refs--he does. But any Friar fan who watched that game last night and just ignores that Cooley was non-stop working the refs is not being honest. And his working of the refs clearly worked as PC was in the bonus 5 minutes into the 2nd half. I guess that didn't help PC comeback from 8 down (I believe it was 6 straight FT's to cut the lead to 2).

Do refs miss calls? Absolutely. But fans tend to over-exaggerate their impact on games. SJU vs SHU? Well there was a case to be made in that game because of the timing of the (missed) call and the score. And even in that game, it never should have come down to that. SJU should have put that game away. But that is the worst I've seen this year no doubt (other than perhaps the Hauser catch, land, jump and shoot all within a 0.8 second timeframe). It stings but CU and SJU had no one else to blame than themselves for those losses.

Teams lose to other teams 99.9% of the time because of their inability to get the job done or the other team's ability to get it done. Over the weekend, two critical calls down the stretch went against Nova vs. Marquette. Jermaine Samuels gives Howard a little nudge while going for an offensive rebound. Foul and two (automatic) points down the other end. Saddiq Bey strips Howard and, if he was not undercut by MH, he has a clear path to a layup on the other end for the lead. No foul called. Oh well. Judgement calls. As a fan of Nova I screamed at my TV and cursed the refs at the time. But the bottom line is we had possession at the end and couldn't convert to win. And we had 40 minutes to stop Howard and we couldn't. So why would a play here or a play there mean more than the collective of all the others.

Maybe Nova gets more calls than other teams because they play smarter and more disciplined. Maybe they don't reach as much or set moving screens as much. Maybe Jay gets a call here or there because of reputation or because he works the refs consistently. But it not just a Nova phenomenon that EVERY fan base thinks that refs are always against them while ignoring obvious calls in their favor.

Some teams do emphasize to defend without fouling (eg., Virgnia), but it's not always a good thing (St. Joseseph's). Nova's been pretty good about this.

The ref thing gets old fast...every fan base complains about the refs pretty much every game, especially when they lose. Bad calls will always be part of the game as long human officials are used and as frustrating as they can be, I do believe that they generally even out over the course of a season.

Villanova is certainly a frustrating team to play against because they're able to get to the line very frequently despite a very large percentage of their shots being jumpers (mostly threes). Some (such as SJU beat writer Zach Brazziler) claim they get the Duke treatment. While it does feel at times that the whistle blows every single time they miss a shot, I think the big contributing factors are they hit so frequently that defenders have to rush them harder and that they're very good at drawing fouls by pump faking and by initiating contact with their defenders while shooting. Personally - I hate that the last point is so frequently a foul (and this comes with the knowledge that Myles Powell does it too - though as a fan it feels like he doesn't actually get the call as much as others), but that's just the way today's game is. In my opinion, when the shooter's leaning in or kicking a leg out, it should always be a no call.

Nova gets tons of calls not sure how that's really debatable. They are able to flop well but they are also able to draw genuine fouls really well. They love to use the shot fake, get their guy in the air, and jump into them. I will never forget the ridiculous no call in a tight game in the final minutes last year where a Nova player went over the back of Ponds clear as day and there was a foul called on Ponds not the Nova player. Wasn't even close!

Yeah, this has been the key to Villanova's success. Also, with all due respect to Providence fans, when you lose by 5 points, yeah, then maybe you can say a few calls screwed you. When you lose by 18, you just lost.

Pretty funny reading some of these comments. Maybe one of you guys can step up and help the league like Villanova has, and maybe you will start getting the calls as well. We are hoping for it. Thanks.

Please don't pay attention to Mayhem. "Nova gets tons of calls".....good lord......Mayhem also predicted Creighton would "blow out" Xavier last night, and you know how that turned out......

My first post in this thread, that Phil Booth stiff-arms his defenders... that's controversial? Next, you're gonna tell me that Markus Howard doesn't head-bob.

Too many other comments to respond to each. I can do it if yiu guys want... but i don't want to subject this board to more derangement.

This just in: The refs caused my Bluejays to miss 31 of the 47 layups they attempted vs. SHU and X. Bastards.

AND those same refs draw up and execute really shitty inbounds plays.
