Should it? Nova lost a lot, but still had probably two of the 5 best players returning and the best recruiting class in the league. They were still projected to win the league at the beginning of the year.

I voted for Steele because of this: https://goxavier.com/news/2019/3/12/mens-basketball-travis-steele-named-as-a-finalist-for-national-coaching-award.aspx. I also thought that his team finally started playing to its potential because of Steele. Best defensive Xavier team in memory, something Steele had predicted back at the beginning of the season.
Xavier will surprise. Never count them out of the Dance.

Jay Wright only gets 2 votes here, but wins the award. I'm a little surprised to be honest.

Steele proving he belongs as a BE Coach late in the season but the 14 losses were a painful education. Still, I thought X would go 5-13 early on and he managed to pull out the 37th consecutive .500 or better conference season. Bringing in the 3 grad transfers saved the season.
