Good news to me. Mullin needs to go, period, and this will hopefully expedite that as much as possible.

Wonder if they hire Mike Rice to replace him as lead recruiter. There were rumors about a potential fit there last year, if I recall. Regardless, the school needs to get a recruiter hired ASAP.

Hoiberg official to Nebraska. State and local media just creamed themselves. Maybe this will light a fire under McDermott to go and recruit instead of golf and following Doug around like a groupie.
Nebraska by birth, Creighton by choice.

So obviously nothing has been made official yet with regards to Buzz Williams and Texas A&M, but it seems likely to become so any day now.

To top it off, I’m hearing chatter from VT sources that Wojo might be a serious candidate to replace Buzz at VT. If that happens, and I ever visit Milwaukee, I’m leaving anything maroon or VT branded at home...

Didn't Buzz just get extended with a contract that will run from something like 2.7 up to 3.3M a year. How much is A&M going to pay.

BE is getting good payouts, but teams are going to have to start to pay up pretty seriously if we want to keep our coaches

+1000. Nebraska just made Hoiberg the 11th highest paid coach in basketball. 11th. For a program that has sucked at basketball since forever. Big East schools are going to have to decide in a hurry if we are going to do what it takes to stay on the big stage in basketball or become a 2nd tier conference. No Big East coach should make less than comparably successful coaches in any other P6 conference.

If A&M wants him, I don't think money will be an issue. Texas, Texas A&M, and Ohio State were 3 athletic departments that generated over $200M in revenue in 2018. For A&M, $212.4M in revenue vs. 165.8M in expenses.

The Big East really though wasn't getting good payouts. I mean the last numbers that we saw from the 2016 season was less than 3 million. Now the NCAA money is up some and the TV money is up some, but even if it's 5 million payout, compared to the Big Ten at 50 million plus(so using the 80/20 principle- it's 10 million), SEC at 41 million(8.2 million), Big 12 34.8 million(6.96 million), Pac 12 30.9 million(6.15 million), and ACC 30.7 million(6.14 million)- it's very low. And those numbers are going up fast as well. ACC is going to go up fast after their network comes online this year.

The biggest thing with the coaches is the constant moving for the Big East. Butler, Xavier, and Marquette have all lost a coach upwards in the last 6 years. If Willard or Wojo leave- that increases the number of coaches. But if you're going to be paying Mack only 1.7 million per year, what do you expect?

Regarding Buzz, I have the utmost confidence that - at present - he is currently in 12-hour negotiations with leadership at A&M going over contract parameters. Buzz, who does not have an agent, writes all of his own contracts. At both Marquette and Virginia Tech, he essentially had carte blance when it came to his demands - and, in the case of VT, gave him the financial security that I am unaware of any other coach receiving (i.e. had he been fired, even for cause, his full contract was still guaranteed). Additionally, his famous five-year rollover clause always gave him the protection of working under a five year deal (which was a benefit in the name of recruiting...).

For Texas A&M, I would be shocked if these little details would prevent them from providing Buzz everything he wants (and he has EVERYTHING he wants laid out diligently). Even though the media spun Buzz as taking a paycut to go to VT, which - on the surface - appeared accurate, Buzz still gets all of the income from camps, personal appearances, and other amenities that significantly bump that number up.

I am going to guess that he will get at least $5 million annually (probably $4 million as a base, with the addition earnings through other channels).

Belmont Coach Rick Byrd announced his retirement today. That's a nice job for whoever gets it.
