I've seen so many people say "football drives the bus", but the fact of the matter is that UConn wouldn't even have a D1 football team if it weren't for the success of their basketball teams. Football can frequently drive the bus off a cliff (as most catholic schools figured out a long time ago, football almost bankrupted Xavier in the 70's), UConn was smart to figure that out and try to balance their interests.

I know Rutgers sucks but how are they not the “host” in that arrangement?

Honestly, I think thats a great move for Rutgers. Michigan gave up a home game to get that same so let them collect the gate. Rutgers gets whats essentially another home game and will have a good chunk of the fans in attendance. I will say this, that game better not F&*# with the SJU schedule and MSG access.
