How many opposing fans show up to your games? Let's see that attendance record when you guys become a bottom feeder. Notice I said when and not if...it's coming Git, it's coming...

Hard to get seats for opposing fans...maybe 1000. Jays are the only show in town. Attendance is based around approx 13K season tkt holders. Johnnies are what, 15th-20th on the "Things to do in NY" list? You and DePaul hold the bottom seat for us...appreciate it.
NJRedman...we already did our time as a bottom feeder in 2014-15, 14-19 overall, 4-14 (8th) in the league, (17,048 attendance). We'll leave those spots for you more qualified, experienced schools to hold.

Not only were they not listed, but their measuring stick Nebraska took the number 1 spot. Only a matter of time until Hoiberg has that program turned around, and that will certainly sting the Jay fans. Except maybe for those that also cheer for the Huskers.

I'm sure the list was at least partially based on performance to attendance ratio. St. John's has not been great in a long time. Lots of "almost" or flat out disappointing seasons underperforming...but in spite of that the fans still come out. And are you serious saying SHU fans were packing MSG? LOL! Seton Hall has half the students we do. And on top of that, they don't move the needle the way we do. From a branding standpoint, they lag far behind us even though admittedly in the last decade they've done a lot more than us. Hype machine just not the same for them. At the Duke game at WORST it was 50/50 I was there. This idea that we get dominated by other fanbases in our house is just not true. I go to lots of games so I would know.

The only time during the past couple years that the Garden was split was the Duke game two seasons ago, but we entered with an 11 game losing streak.

This year every MSG game had a sizable SJU advantage. Even the sold out (around 20K) Nova game was at least 75% St. John's fans. The rest of the SJU games (Providence, Georgetown, Seton Hall) were around 18K and probably 85-90% St. John's fans. We have a solid base of 15K+ Johnnies fans (excluding other fan bases) that will show up to MSG if we're having a competitive season. I also think Cragg (new AD) was a factor in attendance this year.

Jays have a small passionate fan base that gets about 25% of the local media attention that a historically awful Nebraska program gets. It’s sad.

Man some of you Jonnies fans are sensitive. No one ever said SHU filled MSG or there were more Nova or Duke fans at those games. I just asked a curious question of what did you suspect the percentages to be. If you concede that the opposing fan bases in those games makes up about 25% (which sounds about right) then you answered my question. My only point is that Omaha certainly doesn’t have the same dynamic as NYC. 5k Nova fans aren’t flying out there for away games. So as you puff your chests about the 18k attendance at some games, recognize that a portion of that is the result of visiting fanbases. That’s it. It doesn’t make SJU a bad program or you guys bad fans. It’s just the dynamic that is NYC.

A 15k core fanbase is huge, with respect to that being the norm for average home attendance.

WHEN St. John's comes fully back around, the BE will benefit immensely. NYC. Strong historical brand. Strong fan support. The new coach is a step towards program stability. He may not be the launch-guy, but he'll at least set a strong foundation for the future if he doesn't prove to be the launch guy (i.e. the Johnnies version of Jay Wright).

We keep visualizing this idea off and on, but imagine the day that St. John's, Georgetown and UConn, in particular, are firing on all cylinders, and with other conference members having no part of giving their positions away. I was going to include DePaul in that comment, but, at least for me, DePaul gets little attention until they get serious about getting serious about finding a competent AD.
