I could care less about the game....

I just hate the logic the refs use there... If it was the other way I would have said the same thing. I hate when officials by swallowing their whistles not wanting to decide the game..... decide the game. It's a foul 100% of the time the other 39:58. Any time I see it in any game I don't like it- no matter what teams are involved.

BIG win for Creighton though- one they really needed to get back on track. Got big ones vs Oklahoma and Arizona St(not to mention the always tricky game vs Nebraska)…. Beat Nebraska and split with Oklahoma/Arizona St- and they're in pretty decent shape IMO.

Oh, how is it going guys???? I've been trying on purpose to avoid posting here to try to keep the piece. You guys are off to a pretty weird start right now IMO. Got 4 teams looking really set- but not many big wins from those guys- best one probably SH over Iowa St tonight- big chance on Sunday with Marquette getting Maryland... Seton Hall, Nova, Xavier, and Marquette. A 4 team middle pool with Butler, DePaul(who knew?), Georgetown, and Creighton(with all 4 of those teams having some really solid wins). Then you have St John's and finally Providence(what is going on there????)

Personally, I was enjoying the piece and quiet.....

Big East is now #3 in RPI, with 8 teams in a solid position. It's a different start than I anticipated, but just as good. The current Top 25 AP (Nova, Hall, X) is doing slightly worse than anticipated, but they're easily offset by undefeated Butler and DePaul.

The frustrating part for Seton Hall is how they ended up with their 2 losses. They had both Michigan State and Oregon dead to rights before choking them away. And of course (while we're on the topic from the Creighton game) they may have pulled out the MSU game anyway if the refs didn't swallow their whistles when Mamu got mugged down 1 with a handful of seconds on the clock.

Xavier, Marquette, Georgetown, Creighton, and SJU are more or less about where people thought they'd be.

Butler and DePaul piled up some solid wins vs. lower tier P5 teams. Better than where they were projected, but not absolutely stunning level of surprise.

I think Seton Hall and Nova are slight disappointments. Seton Hall's aggressive scheduling may backfire on them if they can't beat Maryland and come away with 0 signature win ooc. Nova needs to beat Kansas for that signature ooc win as well. Tall order.

Providence... it's worse than perennial DePaul who were pretty good at avoiding horrific losses.

Overall, the conference has been mediocre ooc so far, but there's still enough games left to change that. As things stand we'd send 6 or 7 teams dancing, but with undesirable seeds.

looking still have a when you think about it crazy 27 games left with KP tier a and b opponents OOC. That's going to have a lot to say about the # of teams dancing- along with the seeds.

as far as SH- they probably picked up 1st Q1 win yesterday and still have quite possibly 3 more chances @ Iowa St, @ Rutgers(think they finish top 75- they beat SF Austin, something Duke couldn't do*how about that kid getting what is it 135k on the GoFundMe after making that shot)), and Maryland.

You'll be one of those teams that NET benefits (and would've been hurt by RPI). That, along with 2 solid wins (@ St. Louis and vs Iowa St) puts you in a good position

Also, who knows what would've happened if you beat Oregon. It's very possible you would've lost the next 2 games like Oregon did. I'd say you emerged better from the tournament than they did, or at least did just as well. Going 1-2, even against 3 ranked teams, isn't ideal.

only thing is that Oregon pretty much a lock to be top 50 so thus Q1. Can't say that for Iowa St.

SOS for them not much of a concern though. Still have 3 Q1 chances here in December. Have to take advantage of that.

Great day for the conference yesterday. Thx guys for getting those W's.

The Friars-- man, just a horrible season so far. I really don't want to call out any specific players negatively, so i'll just give general bullet points:

- David Duke is easily the best player on the team.
- Greg Gantt has played great as a freshman and gives me hope for the future.
- Jimmy Nichols should get more playing time, cuz he plays with energy and has good instincts.
- When PC presses and they give max effort, good things happen.

- Our free throw shooting is horrible. We must be shooting 55% from the line.
- Our main PG's can't drive to the hoop and score... it's either an offensive foul, a steal, or a missed shot.
- Our PG's move in reverse and run the offense 40 feet from the bucket.
- Half the passes we make are soft, and unnecessary, and are 35 feet frpm the hoop. 95% of passes are contested and an adventure. I'm talking even basic passes like crossing midcourt and tossing it to a teammate standing 8 feet away.
- We literally cannot successfully put in a layup.
- Shot selection is horrible. Half court offense is horrible. It's painful to watch. If we break the press, we don't attack the hoop.

There are 72 other negatives but I'm getting agita thinking of all this, and again I'm not ready to call out specific players so i'll stop here. But the roster has holes. Even with some bad breaks like giving up banked-threes and some bad calls like the 3-pt foul to end the Long Beach game, the Friars 4-4 record is not a surprise after watching them recently.

Ok, one last comment-- with the exception of Holt, i think at this point our current Senior class graduating will be a net positive for next season.

the old addition by subtraction. I see it all the time..

I just was amazed watching you guys last Sat vs Penn. had a run going like you said pressing etc. But when Penn got 1 break in there- they got it back up quickly....

Stretch the tournament results out to a 12 game OOC (multiply by 4). Oregon would be 4-8 (all Q1) and Hall would be 8-4 (probably 2/3 Q1 but potentially 1/3). I'd definitely take Hall's results.

I get what you're saying, but getting the guaranteed Q1 win(and a top level Q1 win- remember they have tiers on those now)- is really big. It's going to be interesting to see if Iowa St can hang in there top 50- no lock at all. will be interesting to see where Iowa St is in 2 weeks when the NET gets released.

Seton Hall is one of the rare teams that could lose a 1st rd tournament game and not have it tank their overall SOS. Still have 6 tier A and 1 tier B by Ken Pom. Out of only 12 games.
