They knew that already though.

The Big East has consistently been Top 2-5 conference overall

This year, if things continue to like this. It may be #1.

Yeah, we don't need to put them on notice considering we've won 2 of the past 4 championships, and also just brought in the 2014 champions. They're well aware. Yesterday we didn't simply tell them we're "pretty badass as well", we told them we may be the best conference period.

I know that wasn't the intention, but why do people act like that is some kind of new thing?

2014 - 5th - 4 bids
2015 - 2nd - 6 bids
2016 - 3rd - 5 bids
2017 - 3rd - 7 bids
2018 - 3rd - 6 bids
2019 - 5th - 4 bids
2020 - 3rd - ???

Average 3.5 rank and 5.33 bids per year, all-time, for the Big East. Given that the Big East will finish slightly above its average, you can take to the bank that they'll correspondingly get 6 bids like 15 and 18 or 7 like 17.

The Big East has NEVER had % bids like that over that kind of span in the history of the name, whatever the configuration. Look it up.

Because there was a deliberate and concentrated effort by ESPN, the ACC and the B1G to try and kill the Big East, and take its desired and profitable NYC exposure and East Coast recognition. There were repeated narratives that the Big East died in 2013, and this was only to be an adopted version.

Yes, we have 90% of our league make the tournament and yes we have won two (now three) recent national championships, but in order officially kill that perception and establish ourselves as what we know to be an elite basketball conference, we have to continue growing and reaching new levels of success.

Yesterday was yet another step forward. We need to continue to take those steps in order to ensure and affirm our perception and standing as an elite men's basketball conference. Leave zero thought for doubt.

Five years ago, our mission was to show we belong. Today, we are fighting to show that we are the best.

Didn't really know where to put this because it doesn't really merit a whole thread, but Butler is evidently going to get back Derrick Smits soon.

He's not going to start but having a 7'1' guy who averaged over 12 per game on the bench for match-ups with big teams - like Purdue, could be important.

He hasn't played a minute.

Here's been the "problem" the Big East has had....

While yes, gotten a lot of bids per year- the seeds that have gone with the bids haven't been great at all. And a lot of that has been the relatively speaking mediocre OOC seasons.

Right now the league has a .791 winning pct. ooc. The only year that has been better was 2018- that was .815. went 101-23. Right now the league is at 72-19. So has a chance to top that- with what I think is a far stronger SOS than that year. It's very possible with weeks like this week that the league would enter conference play positioned far stronger than it ever has based on OOC results. May or may not help with # of bids, but it should help with the seeds. Fewer teams in the pit of misery, which help get teams advanced to the 2nd weekend.

Now do the AAC.

Right? I also like how he jumps to winning percentage OOC, because he can then ignore the associated SOS. The composite of the two in Kenpom rankings has placed the Big East between 2nd and 5th in every season of its new incarnation, with a mode of 3rd. Hardly "mediocre."

Just constantly shifting goalposts by our man Stever.

Edit: Actually, I just checked, and in terms of raw winning percentage, the Big East has also done very well. Mid-to-high 70s is pretty much in line with the best conferences in basketball, with a conference sometimes breaking into the low 80s like the Big East has done before.

This is what happened to Butler last year. Brunk never wanted to be there, but when he was in high school, the IU offer never came. Good riddance.
