Then they throw their hands up and say, "oh well those are good teams we gave it a good shot" not realizing they were a borderline top 10 team preseason meaning they should very well be expected to win some of those games. Then they do enough (without dominating) in conference play to get a bid to the tourney...and then they get a bad seed, lose to a big name team and again throw their hands up and say "oh well tough matchup". This is a losing mindset. I'm frustrated because the way things are going, we will likely not get those coveted seeds and it sets up another year of 1 and out tourney teams. I hope St. John's can help the conference in the coming years and by the way we may finish bottom half of conference, but add another ranked OOC win for us. WVU is #25 and that's in a rebuilding year losing our best player and getting a new coach. Let's hope that's a good sign of things to come.

What makes you think people are just throwing their hands up saying "oh well?" That's not the case at all - take a look at the SHU board - people are pissed. People may recognize that the current position right now has a lot more to do with bad luck (24th worst in KenPom) and injuries than under performance - but that doesn't make it any less frustrating as this season obviously has not gone according to plan. SHU's possibly a top 15 team at full strength, but not without its top 2 players. That's just reality.

Seton Hall normally does really well in the OOC. Last 4 years they're 40-9 OOC with 7 Ken Pom A wins and 4 B wins. That's pretty good. No, forget that, that's very good.

The Seton Hall problem has been in conference play. last 3 years 29-25. That's why they've had 9,8,10 seeds the last 3 years.

Yes Xavier had the Sweet 16 and so did Butler I believe. But we need several teams consistently getting to the Sweet 16 if not further to silence the last critics left. They do have a point there. Overall in 6 years or so, how many times did a Big East team get to the Sweet 16 or further? 3-4 times? Out of 30 chances or so (quick estimate about 5 teams per year in NCAA x 6 years = 30 chances)? That is pretty rough. I know the seeding gets tough too with the conference beating up on each other, but man we need to do serious work in the tourney.

The simple fact is, what you do in March is what matters most at the end of the day. Until the Big East, aside from Villanova, starts to show up in March, the jury will still be out. Are we a major conference? Yes, but if you took Villanova out of the conversation, and you look at the new Big East's performance in March since it's inception, it leaves A LOT to be desired. I am hoping that will change soon. But right now, I don't think this March is going to look much different.

WOW. So we are all MidMajors without Nova? Can Every Big East Team Post That On Their Bulletin Board? Please?

How about you don't twist my words and answer this question, if you remove Villanova from the conference, has the NEW Big East's overall performance in March been adequate for a MAJOR conference? If you think so, then let's just say we shall agree to disagree. Are you satisfied with Creighton's overall performance in March? I mean you haven't made the Sweet 16 since 1974. Is that what basketball teams in major hoops conferences hope for? Don't get mad at me when it is glaringly obvious when it comes to March, the Big East could be doing a hell of a lot better.

And post away on other team's message boards. I am guessing the majority of fans who are hoping for this league to keep improving are going to be in agreement with me. It's unbelievable. Creighton hasn't been to the 2nd weekend in over 45 years, and this guy is getting angry when I say the league should be doing better in March, and THEN people wonder why I bring up the Mid-Major mentality from some of you. UNBELIEVABLE. THERE IS WORK TO BE DONE HERE FOLKS. WE AREN'T THERE YET.

A Tuesday night split in the Big East. Providence loses to Florida and Creighton beats Oklahoma. Next one is tomorrow night and it looks like the Hall will be without Powell.

Thr. 12/19 - Maryland vs. Seton Hall
Sat. 12/21 - Kansas vs. Villanova
Purdue v. Butler
Creighton vs. Arizona State
Northwestern vs. DePaul
Arizona vs. St. John's
Texas vs. Providence
Sun. 12/22 - Xaiver vs. TCU

vs. ACC 2-2
vs. B1G 5-8
vs. SEC 5-2
vs. XII 8-3
vs. PAC 2-2

Total 22-17

Go Big East

Django, I just want to be clear about something, if you and I ever met, I guarantee we would get along swimmingly and I would be completely complimentary of Creighton's program and would mean every word of it. I have butted heads with some Xavier fans recently, and I will say the same thing to them, Xavier, Butler, and Creighton were HOMERUN additions for the Big East. I could NOT be more pleased, there are not 3 other programs I would have added in their place.

With that being said, every time I bring up the Big East needing to step it up in March, I am met with the same type of responses, but how am I wrong? I think most Big East schools would look at their tournament record and say, we can do better. Usually I say the Big East AS A WHOLE needs to do better, and try to avoid singling out specific programs. When I do single out a program it is because I am responding to a fan of that specific program like in your case.

So Django, are you telling me Creighton fans aren't hoping for better in March? I think we both know the answer to that. Don't take it as a personal attack, take it as somebody saying that we can do a hell of a lot better, and I think most would agree.

Ha! Ceiling should be much higher. Great program, rabid fanbase, awesome arena, although my boy gtmo doesn't seem to be a fan, great coach, not to mention you run a CLEAN program, no reason Creighton can't make the Sweet 16 once every few years, with a year here and there where there is National Championship talk. I honestly feel UConn's addition is only going to further help recruiting throughout the Big East and it's going to become more and more realistic for more Big East teams to be making the Sweet 16 on the reg.

I sure hope so lol. SHU really may have to dominate when Powell and Mamu return in order to convince the committee to forgive the losses without them. A game or 2 over .500 after their return may not do it - if they don't get any results without them, they need to prove they're a completely different team with them.
