Stupid on steroids.

That said, there is no official designation on who is the "true" champ, or is there? Is it written in the Big East's history books somewhere, "the tourney champ is the real champ".

We've been in this conference for 40 years and we OG members all made final fours with multiple teams winning national titles and championship game appearances from this conference. We've been crowing the conference champ in this tourny since Reagan first started getting dementia. You guys talk about power conferences should only focus on nattys. Well guess what? Those folks in the ACC sure as hell care about winning their conference tournament. Same goes with the B1G and their annual bash. Winning any tournament with a collection of tough schools is a worthy accomplishment.
It all boils down to one thing in this thread. No mid-western school has EVER won a BET championship. Thats 25 years of the conference stretching out into the heartland with none of those teams being able to make a run in the worlds most famous arena when the lights are at their brightest.
One more thing. You can "win" the regular season on a day where you actually lose a game. You can lose a game then be presented with a championship trophy. Thats just lame compared to confetti falling and climbing a ladder to cut down the nets.

It's not that we don't care about winning the conference tournament. We just also care about NCAA Tournament seeding. This thread is asking us to choose ONE championship with no further conditions. The regular season is the logically-moticated choice, while the tournament is the emotionally-motivated choice. Surprise, surprise, those not invested in the tradition of the Big East from decades past also aren't as inclined to make the emotional choice. Heck, I even think the BET is the primary conference championship, but that doesn't change the fact that I care more about NCAA Tournament seeding.
And I gotta say something that might offend your old Big East sensibilities: When Xavier got the invite to the Big East, the Big East Tournament was far down my list of priorities. The conference retaining both the Big East name and the tournament venue mattered to me but not nearly as much as a plethora of other implications from the move to the Big East.

Hey, you're the one imagining up sour grapes and implying a longing of Midwesterners over 25 years for their team to play in the Big East Tournament because you can't seem to understand that other fans might have different motivations from you.
