We also have a great shot at the NIT. While I would not have signed up for that kind of a season 2 months ago, I would have 4 months ago. Beating 5 Tournament teams in a rebuilding year (WVU/Arizona/Providence/Creighton/Marquette) is very encouraging, especially given the recent play of our freshmen/sophomores.

The future is bright for the Johnnies, as well as the rest of the Big East.

Really don't know that I'd call you guys as a great shot at the NIT. Games like what happened tonight with Wright St are just killers. Already have 2 NIT bid thieves, and realistically with what happened in the MVC, they weren't getting a NIT team and now UNI will be. So right there-
St John's isn't in the first 8 teams out of the tourney
2 legit NIT bid thieves already(not even counting UNI who is one of the 8 teams).

So right there already are 10 teams that St John's either can't displace or won't displace. And there are others that while they aren't one of the first 8 teams out, you know that St John's is behind. teams like Purdue, Tennessee, and Arkansas. The more NIT bid thieves we get, the less shot that St John's has.

You're more concerned with our NIT chances than any of us St. John's fans are. The point is it's a successful season even if we miss out on the NIT, because we'd still be guaranteed to keep CMA's winning streak alive (with the one exception being if we lose to GT, miss the NIT, accept an invite to the CIT, and then lose in the first round to the lowest seed... pretty doubtful). More importantly, the play of our underclassmen the last couple weeks is very reassuring for our future. I'm not saying this year has been a roaring success, but getting a .500 record and seeing some development is what most of us wanted preseason. We've done better relative to expectations this year than the last several years.

As for our NIT chances, SBNation's Mid-Major Madness has us as a 5 seed. Again, I like our chances but if we don't make it then no big deal.

1) there was a gellespie 2 in the first half that was called. A 3 the ref marked to go back and check and they never did. 2) that was not goal tending on the last nova basket. 3) Allen got fouled on the last Hoya attempt. Nova pushes off every play. Especially Gillespie.

I am not even going to call this guy out because all of you do it. "NOVA GETS ALL THE CALLS!!!!" "THEY ARE LIKE THE DUKE OF THE BIG EAST!!!!" It's laughable.

You boys want a shot at the title, you gotta bring it! Stop blaming the F'ing refs.

Love you guys.

I am not willing to do research to figure out the average number of NIT bid thieves, but there were 10 last year. Teams in the lower half of the projected NIT brackets will fall off as more conference regular season winners fail to win their conference tournaments.

Something I didn't realize before... SJU has the most NIT titles of all time. So naturally I looked up wikipedia for numbers nobody cares about..

SJU 6 Titles / 16 Final Fours
Providence 2 Titles / 7 Final Fours
DePaul 1 Title / 5 Final Fours
Villanova 1 Title / 5 Final Fours
Marquette 1 Title / 4 Final Fours
Seton Hall 1 Title / 3 Final Fours
Xavier 1 Title / 2 Final Fours
Connecticut 1 Title / 2 Final Fours
Georgetown 3 Final Fours
Creighton 1 Final Four
Butler 8 appearances

So this board argues over regular season vs BET, then discusses being on the NIT bubble...

Meanwhile the world frets over the Corona virus. It might just be shistosomiasis.

It's almost like we care about our teams and wanting them to keep playing. Crazy!

Yep, figures that we have such little success in the actual Tournament but have the most NIT titles of anyone. Still, I'd obviously take the banners and would be nice to go on an NIT run so the underclassmen could get some extra confidence heading into 2020-21.

The guy joined 2 days ago, have to assume he's a troll. Silly to suggest we shouldn't do anything but discuss the coronavirus all day on a basketball message board.
