NCAA tinkering with NET

I don't trust these snakes for one second. The problem they see is only 11 P5 schools in the Top 20 of the final NET. "How can that be? It must be broken, let's fix it!"

Any modifications to the formula that would appear to benefit the ACC or Big Ten, on paper, would equally benefit the Big East.

It likely screws over leagues like the A10, but I don't know if I care too much about that.

Sounds like we're back to being able to simply schedule your way into the NCAA Tournament. Q1 Ls will boost you just for playing the game, Q4 Ws will punish you just for playing the game. Plus it further emphasizes the importance of OOC performance as a conference. It's important on team level as always, but it further exaggerates the concept of a rising tide lifts all boats.

Don't see how this would be a bad thing for the Big East. If anything, it'll benefit us and the other top conferences.

It should help deeper leagues like the BE, B12, and B1G last season. People will be quick to assume that this is being done to punish midmajors, but PAC12 may have figured out how to break the system looking at last season.

Yet another reason to be thankful for the conference upgrade. Thanks BE!

I just don't like eliminating winning % as a factor. It obviously needs to be considered with SOS in mind to prevent teams from loading up on home cupcakes, but at the end of the day winning still needs to be important. It's why as great as a tool like KenPom is, I don't like it being used for tournament inclusion because it sees so little difference between a 1 pt win and a 1 pt loss. I'm good with not being punished for "losing a game you're supposed to lose" but you shouldn't significantly benefit from it either.

Question - How widely held is this opinion among UCONN fans?

That we upgraded going from AAC Basketball to BE Basketball? 90%. Most of the dissenters thought we were sacrificing football, but many have come around given the football scheduling and new TV contract. There will always be that small contingent of idiots tho.

did they post what an updated NET would have looked like for this past season?

The fact they still have efficiency as a factor- means you can't just blindly say that playing a Q4 team will ding you. Maybe you won't be as helped by it as the last few years but still- it's different than the RPI. Same as Q1 games. If you get killed by 30 points, it's not helping you.
