Where'd you have the deep dish at? If you say a chain spot you lose all credibility to review it.
NYC pizza is underdone floppy dough Chicago Tavern style is the much more widely eaten style and it's 100x better than NYC as it actually has a legit texture.

Chicago tavern style is just St. Louis style with real cheese. But if you like a nice crisp crust on a real pizza, I highly recommend a jersey style bar pie.

I've never been to NJ and don't know of a spot in the Chicagoland or Milwaukeeland area for me to try it sadly but I'll take your word for it and if I ever make it out there I'll give it a shot.
