I've read multiple times about Gonzaga as a basketball only member with keeping their other sports someplace to lessen travel.

It is my understanding that you cannot have a basketball only member if basketball is the "major" sport (ie, no football) as per NCAA rules. Basketball is a designated criteria by the NCAA for what constitutes multi sport conferences (as opposed to a single sport specific conference like lacrosse or swimming or something)

Has any rules changed or am I "misremembering" the facts? LOL

As far as I know, your "home" conference is where your basketball team plays...hence football only arrangements but not for basketball. It's either all of GU's teams or no Zags basketball.
Big East Basketball is what it's always been. Great competition nightly.
If the Atlantic 10 didn't suck, why is everyone looking for the exits?
There is a reason why the A-10 left a team in the Central Time Zone...SLU, your move.

Yes, that's correct with the only exceptions being cases where a school plays a sport that is not offered in their conference. Then they can take that sport to another conference.

I think UConn would be a fit in the Big 12 (or however many are there now). I thought they would go with Cincy relatively quickly.

Makes sense to me. Apparently it doesn't to the Big XII. I keep hearing comments about the distance to UConn being too great. You can imagine how I feel about that one. :x

Actually I think it has more to do with football. I think football has to be prominent for the Big XII to want you in that conference. Hence, they jumped on TCU. I don't think football is big enough at either Cincy or UConn for them to be interested at this time.

B12 and WV already regret their marriage and Uconn does not have the football program WV had. Makes no sense for the B12 to invite them. ACC is the only school that makes sense for Uconn and I think eventually they'll get invited after a few ACC schools get eventually potched either by the SEC, B12 or what I think may eventually happen a super league that functions as a defacto minor league for football with the best 30 programs separating themselves from everyone else. Why should schools like Florida, Alabama, etc share the wealth with a team like Vandy. Just cut to the chase and get the top 30 programs and separate them into their own league with a system just like the NFL.

The problem is that the Big XII is now stuck with West Virginia and WV keeps complaining about their isolation. So adding a school or schools in the Northeast and/or Ohio Valley would reduce their isolation. Cincy is a perfect solution. As far away as UConn is, it's still closer to WV than the rest of the Big XII and it's in the same time zone.

I like your idea of a 30 team minor league football division. Let's call it what it is and treat it that way.
