But damn.. how much is St. John's paying to play at MSG? And does it make sense when the whole upper deck is empty?
That applies to Georgetown at the Capitol too

If Carnesecca Arena could be expanded to 8-9k (currently around 5,600) capacity it would be a vaible full-time home court but I'm not sure SJ wants to lose the allure of MSG for optics/recruiting purposes. Georgetown is kind of screwed. Their on-campus arena is 2,200 capacity and they have no room to build.
adoraz wrote:In fairness that MSG number is an extreme outlier for St. John's and mostly has to do with COVID. People in NYC take it more seriously than the vast majority of the country. I personally know several people who didn't go due to COVID. If you look at our MSG numbers vs Georgetown from the past 5-10 years they are all much higher than that. The most vocal fans on Twitter/forums are still going, but the average family is less likely to go now. Of course if the team wasn't so mediocre that'd also help a lot, but COVID is definitely the biggest factor.
And yes, St. John's absolutely needs MSG at a recruiting tool. Look at any recruit and they will cite MSG as a reason for committing.

19,812 for the Knicks game the next day following Georgetown and St. John's this Sunday. (5,161)
