I believe it's up to the school but some conference's do ban sales league wide. I think I remember reading somewhere that the SEC doesn't allow sales for any of their events.
Some schools are burdened by rules of their conference; some public schools are burdened by laws of their states; some schools just choose not to sell. While it’s a state law in Nebraska that public universities can’t sell alcohol on campus (with exceptions, private suites being one of them), Creighton isn’t held to this law. It chooses not to sell alcohol at on-campus athletic facilities (though it has no problem doing so at an on-campus bar). There have been rumors and signs forever that these chains are loosening –- there is often alcohol on the upper level of the soccer arena, there was beer sold in the stadium when it played host to a U.S. Women’s National Team game, etc. –- but so far, no such luck. Basketball and baseball are off campus, though.

There was no Big East ban in the past.
