Memphis and Penny Hardaway hit with four Level 1 and two Level 2 violations.

Shocking.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see some sanctions hit Houston soon as well.

I think Kansas, Duke, UNC and most B1G programs are immune at this point.

Memphis knew the risks when it hired Penny. Those risks were confirmed with the Wiseman scandal during the '19-'20 season. Memphis chose to remain ignorant (or downright delinquent) when it now has been revealed that it wiped Mike Miller's hard drive during an active NCAA investigation. Couple that with hiring Larry Brown, where every single college he coached at resulted in NCAA violations, and you have a school that simply does not care what the NCAA rules are (they haven't historically) and the pursuit of attempting to win at all costs (which is also funny, since Memphis hasn't exactly had huge legitimate postseason success, despite fan support, talent location, etc.).

I'd predict today that Penny will not be Memphis' head coach when the hammer comes down, leading to either vacating of wins, postseason bans or both. If that happens, Memphis will have had three different coaches that have had major recruiting violations that have led to the vacating of wins (Finch, Calipari, Hardaway).

Listening to Gary Parrish, it sounds like this was caused by Memphis refusing to sit Wiseman like Kansas did with DeSousa, Louisville with Bowen, etc. Very dumb to pick a fight with NCAA for literally no gain (Wiseman quit anyway).

Taking into account the AAC losses from realignment, Memphis was hoped to be a foundational piece of what remained. Now, they are likely to be completely rebuilding with a new coach and ncaa sanctions. Sure glad that I’m not a Wichita State fan.

Memphis gets a big nothing-burger for it...
$5,000 fine, 3 years of probation and vacating all 3 wins in which James Wiseman participated.
