Yes, I know that it doesn't really matter, but only one Big East team ranked to start the season? I am truly stunned.

I'm honestly not really surprised Creighton isn't ranked. I think many on this board and elsewhere have really overstated how good they actually are. That's not to say they are bad by any means but they did not really accomplish all that much in the Valley in terms of success against power conferences and the NCAA tournament. Why would they be expected to be better when they play better opponents?

We'll see how good we are this year. Do you think Wichita State should be ranked? Creighton returns more starters, a national player of the year candidate, and beat them twice last year while winning both the regular season and tournament titles. Preseason polls are a joke. However it would be helpful to have more teams ranked to force additional publicity our way.

No I don't think either should be ranked. All I was saying is that while Doug may be a great player you guys never made it past the third (second) round in the tournament. You've also lost some head scratchers to valley teams in that same span. I just don't think that Creighton will be perform any better in this league.

Who knows maybe this change will revitalize Doug and give the team in general a boost. But for now, I don't think they should be ranked.

From a fan standpoint I don't have much of a problem with the Jays not being ranked because I suspect that after the top 12 or so, there really isn't much of an apparent difference in the next 25 or so teams - those teams will have to wait for the games to start to sort themselves out.

For discussions sake I do have a bit of a statistical issue with it though - how many previously ranked teams (#21 final Coaches poll 2013) returning (I am guessing...) about 85% of game minutes from the last year are 'downgraded' out of the top 25 ...it can't happen THAT often.

Wrong......You better check your facts again bud on how the Jays did against power conf. I will give you that they have come up short in the tourney but always getting a top seed after the first game they have never had any favors given to them by the selection comm.

I wondered how did the TOP 25 look preseason last year and at the final week before tourney (I figured this was the better poll for this discussion rather than the post tourney final poll).

I found that of the 25 ranked teams in both the AP and USA Today preseason polls, 16 were there at seasons end.

The poll title says 2013 but it is 2012-2013 season (last year)

I'll give you Wisconsin and maybe Cal but beating Nebraska every year isn't much to hang your hat on. Same for Northwestern and Iowa. Then combine that with losses to Indiana/Illinois/Missouri St. and others it doesn't seem very predictive of future success.

That being said I hope my gut is wrong about you guys and I'll be cheering for you in the non-conference!

SLU not helping themselves with the no-show.

Other than VCU, no other mentioned teams that aren't in the league listed.

We lost a couple games in league play but still won the league outright. Pretty easy to understand that losses happen to almost everyone. I think this year will be very difficult for Creighton, but I think that 10 or 11 wins during the conference season is doable.
