a lot of the OOC schedules hinge on performance in the exempt tournaments that all teams are in. If you lose that 1st round, you are relegated to playing weaker teams the 2nd/3rd games.

In general though, yes the teams have to schedule better OOC. The conference schedule won't be as insane as it was before, so to keep the SOS up, the OOC schedule has to get harder.

Ken Pomeroy's preseason ratings point to a pretty balanced league:

13. Creighton
14. Georgetown
24. Marquette
26. Villanova
41. Providence
47. St. John's
53. Butler
57. Xavier
63. Seton Hall
84. DePaul

No top 10 teams, but tough top to bottom. http://kenpom.com/

If that's correct then we have at least 6 tournament teams with a possibility for as many as 9. That's nuts. If DePaul is a top 100 rpi team this year, then conference play will be absolutely insane.
This is my opinion. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

According to his blog post on his rankings his personnel aspect of the equation does not include: Non top 100 recuits, Jucos, transfers, or players who played 2 years ago but not last year. If so Schools like Georgetown (Josh Smith), Villanova (Dylan Ennis), Providence (Tyler Harris, Carson Desrosiers ), St. John's (god's gift). Could be even better than what he currently projects. In theory this is balanced out by the base level of the program part of the equation. So they're probably capturing Georgetown pretty well, but might be underestimating a team on the rise like Providence.

He also states he doesn't include greg whittington because he's not expected to play this year, but if he were to come back at some point that would make Georgetown even better.

That would be pretty sweet if every team had a top 100 rpi ie no "bad" losses.

DePaul won't be. Seton Hall will be borderline. I'm optimistic that Seton Hall will play its way into the top 100, but we'll have to watch Butler in the early going to see what they will be.

Even if one or two teams are outside the top 100, you make a great point! There will be few or no bad losses. This is something that all those emphasizing the importance of OOC schedule have failed to mention. Here are teams expected to be outside the top 100 from some other power conferences:

Big XII - West Virginia, TCU, Texas Tech
ACC - Wake Forest, Miami, NC State, Virginia Tech
B1G - Northwestern, Nebraska, Penn State
SEC - Mississippi State, Auburn, Georgia, South Carolina
Pac-12 - Oregon State, Arizona State, USC, Utah,

Preseason Kenpom notes:

- BE is 2nd ranked conference behind B1G
- 9 of 10 BE schools in top 65 to start season..with all in top 85!
- SHU finished 122nd last season, starts 63rd this year!

It's nice to be a legitimate basketball league, isn't it?

Great starting numbers for the Big East.
Big East Basketball is what it's always been. Great competition nightly.
If the Atlantic 10 didn't suck, why is everyone looking for the exits?
There is a reason why the A-10 left a team in the Central Time Zone...SLU, your move.

West Virginia Bball is now outside the Top 100. They fell pretty quickly since leaving the Big East.

According to Brian Snow being second to the BE is still an accomplishment for the P5!!!! Big East is strong!

"SEC and Big Ten now have 12 recruits rated four-star or higher. Only ACC and Big East have more."
