The home for Big East hoops

First, who cares about the pre-season rankings. Especially the coaches poll which is probably the least objective of all of them. Second, this conference does not need any other schools - not one. If we all play to our potential we will do fine. We do not need UConn, we do not need Syracuse. Funny thing this past week - All year long you hear the ACC and ESPN talking about how they are going to bring their show to New York City and the Garden and how Syracuse has a foothold in the City. The come in on July 1 and hold a little tourist party in Times Square. Well if you look at the NYC newspapers this week, the ACC media day got just about ZERO coverage. Syracuse hoops got zero coverage. The Big East and St. John's were all over the sports sections. So everyone needs to chill about what teams we don't have and focus on the ones we do have.

I understand that many people like to say this for a variety of reasons, but come-on. No, no one cares about preseason rankings. Only Every. Single. Sport. does it.

Half of being a fan is arguing rankings, who's better, who got screwed, discussing next year's teams, etc. At least this isn't football where if you don't start in the top 10 you really don't have a chance, but still.

They do it to build excitement...and piss off some of the other fanbases so they'll watch some of the games in blood donor season.
Big East Basketball is what it's always been. Great competition nightly.
If the Atlantic 10 didn't suck, why is everyone looking for the exits?
There is a reason why the A-10 left a team in the Central Time Zone...SLU, your move.

AP poll released today- only Marquette is ranked at #17. Creighton would be 27th.

Villanova 33, Georgetown 35, St. John's 44.

I think it's asinine that Georgetown isn't in the top 25, but oh well. We'll prove them wrong yet again.

I guess I shouldn't be arguing for SLUs Big East candidacy anymore.

I don't think it's surprising. There are uncertainties about all of the Big East's most highly rated teams and the ones with the most coming back are St. John's and Providence, both of whom still have to prove themselves on the court.

The solution is simple. Win games.

yep.

I also think if Creighton were a returning team- not a team entering a perceived tougher conference- they'd be ranked, likely ahead of Marquette.

I think for Georgetown it's 2 things- 1 losing one of the 5 best players, and also voters can't get the NCAA failure out of their minds.

Pretty meaningless in the pre-season but fun to talk about.

Funny thing is if Creighton were still in the MVC they would be the favorite to win that league and be ranked in the top 15.

The thing we don't know is if McDermott returns for senior year if they are still in the MVC. He pretty much said as much in a piece I saw earlier this week.
