Well, they have another warm-up on Monday, if it's another close game, there might be cause for concern...

I'm really hoping the first game was just a slip up. But nevertheless it was alarming. We have multiple NBA caliber players out there and tons of top 100 talent. Hopefully SFSU just got lucky from 3 shooting nearly 60%. If we don't come out and totally dominate Humboldt St. (interestingly same conference as SFSU) on Monday, it will really concern me. The thing that annoys me the most though, is that none of the SJ fan forums ever admit when we are performing WAY below our expected level. So even if we lose by 30 to Humboldt St. there will still be tons of SJ fans saying "Relax! We still have like 5 whole days until Wisconsin!". It can get maddening.

Oh, well…looks like the rest of the Big East lived up to its conference affiliation. Hopefully we will on Mon.

I wouldn't be concerned at all if this was a normal off season, but the fact that St. John's Got 10 days of practice prior to a 2 week trip to Europe and the team was able to start practicing for real in September instead of mid October with the change in practice rules means there has to be a little concern. St. John's should have been much further along than what they showed yesterday based on how much preseason prep they had.

I don't think there's a difference in the practice rules in terms of how much you are allowed to practice. I think you get the same number of practice days, just 2 more weeks to fill it in.

Not exactly, It wasn't as big of a net as the 2 weeks would indicate, but coaches could end up getting a few extra days out of it if they wanted to, but a lot of coaches it sounded like they weren't increasing their practice time because they were afraid to tire out their teams. But the summer trip is the bigger point.

It's just starting to feel like we will never have a good offense until the next classes replace these guys. Individually they are good players. But they cannot play together at all. It's really frustrating. And I swear we can make a team of 8 yr olds shoot lights out from 3. Every cupcake we play drains 3's on us like they have Reddick in their lineup.

normally I see exhibition games on the schedule and I yawn, but with the team struggling vs. SF St. I`m really interested in this game.
Maybe SJU`s was looking ahead to Wisconsin and it gave them a mwakeup call. I know I`d be embarrassed with struggling with a divIII coll.??? and would want to put a beating on Humboldt St.
If SJU struggles then I`ll be concerned, until then the struggle vs. SF St. was looking ahead to Wisconsin.

Everyone should relax. Remember when we lost back to back games to Fordham and st. Bonnies? We finished 3rd in the big east with an NCAA bid. It's exhibition. I was there and it was not pretty but lavin always experiments early in the season and that is why you have exhibition games. They don't count until they count.

Didn't Syracuse one year when they made the final four lose an exhibition game? I didn't see the game, but I wouldn't make a big deal about it at all quite frankly.

Off topic slightly: I know you had the same record as the team that finished 3rd, but St. John's fans keep saying inaccurately that they finished third that year. You didn't. You finished 5th. And seeing as the team was picked to finish 6th in the preseason, I don't really think it's that impressive, but St. John's fans continue to hang their hat on that amazing accomplishment. [/end of rant]

But you're right teams can start off slow and then come on strong. Look at last year's villanova team as another example losing badly to Colombia at home.
