Well gang, this is what it was all about. The reformation of the Big East Conference was always about basketball and solidarity. Basketball because that's what butters our bread. Because our big men on campus play on the hardwood, not the turf. Because names like Thompson, Carnesecca, Hinkle, McGuire, Massimino and Gavitt belong to us. Because accepting the scraps thrown to us by our football brothers was really never a long term solution. Solidarity because as the football schools pledged loyalty while lobbying to join every other conference out there, the so-called Catholic-7 stayed true to each other. Because at the Bradley Center during a nationally televised game against one of our former football conference mates, the student section began to chant "Catholic 7" so that it could be heard from coast to coast. Because at the Verizon Center, Georgetown - one of the Four Founding Fathers of the Big East - unfurled a huge banner with the seven basketball schools represented proclaiming what would be the unofficial slogan of the league, "BASKETBALL IS OUR RELIGION". Well the time has come to lace them up and go to war. So in that spirit, I wish Xavier, Georgetown, Villanova, Seton Hall, Butler, DePaul, Providence, Creighton, Marquette and of course the Johnnies best of luck in the non-conference season. See you New Years Eve...
We Are St. John's....We Are The BIG EAST!
