where i think the loss for Georgetown hurts is with the rest of the OOC schedule- games @ Kan aichigan St @ MSes not sure you can count on to win. Outside of that, the only other place to get a good OOC win is Puerto Rico.

I hear you but losing always hurts. No one is saying its good to lose but I am saying what did they really lose. Are you saying the hoyas will they miss out on the NCAAT if they loose those other OOC games you mentioned. I don't think that alone is enough. So outside of that its just a missed opportunity & you move on, far from a bad loss though. Actually I think more voters came away more impressed w/the potential of the hoyas b/c of smith than anything else.

If we lost those other OOC games, we would have 3 OOC losses, plus whatever in Puerto Rico(with 2 potential tough games). Worst case, we lose both of those. 8-5 OOC record. We then go 10-8 in conference. That's 18-13 entering the BET. That's square on the bubble, with no good OOC wins.

Doing poorly in OOC means we have to do better in conference play. Not sure with Creighton, Marquette, and others- if that'll be possible.

Focus so much on winning or losing misses the point that the early part of the season for teams like SJU is about making progress as a team and finding out some things about your players with an eye on being great by conference play.

I agree with this, but with everyone questioning the conference's strength, there is a premium on good, noncon wins this year. It remains to be seen if an above .500 conference record alone is going to be sufficient to get an NCAA tourney bid. It may have been in the past, but I don't think it will be this year.

As to the Georgetown/Oregon game, I don't believe anybody is really saying that the loss is a "bad" loss. People may be disappointed, but it is (at the moment at least) a loss to a ranked team. That's never bad.
