What? I'm proud of my school and team. I support them no matter what. I simply don't understand why Butler doesn't have a similar devotion.

You must have missed the part of the thread that confirmed forever more that you just don't have anything better to do!

I think Butler should sell out their first Big East game even if it was against DePaul. Excuses suck.
You're confusing my response to redman with an excuse. I've already said that butlers support in Indy is disappointing and that it could be much better.
Here, I was simply commenting on the attitude of original schools directed towards the new(er) additions. After he decided to take issue with a characterization I made.
You need to get a grip son. I hope you join a different board soon and I also hope this board doesn't break down this fast on the tired old clichés about cow towns, big cities, past accolades. I have loved the "big east" attitude of hoping all of our teams win to make this a special conference- which I believe it will be. However, the point of this post was that Butler should sell out their first Big East game and especially when it is Top 10 Villanova. Stick to the point. There is no excuse, and if this is not enough to get fans excited , I don't know what it will take. Lastly, I hope a lot of people will come to Omaha to see the Bluejays. Yes, we realize we don't have pro sports, but it is a top notch city and embraces all sporting events ( U.S National swim trials (2x) record attendance, women's national NCAA volleyball, U.S. national wresting tournament, top 10 concert attendance venue in U.S.). The point is there is enough to do, but we do love our basketball-and that is what this board is all about. Personally, I will be heading to Providence for a game and perhaps Villanova in the same trip. Like a lot of our fans, I can't wait to see a lot of our league's venues.

I've gotten a sense from many of the eastern school fans that they see themselves as above the western schools (Marquette included) by virtue of a longer affiliation with the big east name.

Respect? Yes. Adoration? No.

Why? Why do these teams deserve more, or a similar level of, respect than any of the other average teams over the past decade?

So you really are saying that teams like St. John's and Villanova are no different than Wright State and Green Bay? Creighton fans all over were ecstatic that we no longer have to play the Evansville's and Indiana State's of the world.

DUQUESNE also brought more fans to Hinkle than 'Nova (7193). On a Tuesday.

How do you guys know just how many Nova fans are coming? Also many of the traveling Nova fans when given the choice probably went to the Cuse game.

Where would Saint Johns  be without UCONN, Georgetown, Marq, and Syracuse propping up the conference?

No, but it wouldn't have mattered. The Pacers couldn't sell $5 tickets last season, and were like third last in the NBA in attendance.
