Notre Dame for 1 year - good or bad?

It blows my mind that there are still people who want to accomodate ND. The very begining of the BE collapse was ND withholding their football from membership while they used the BE for all other sports. Those of you who think we need them for exposure for a year- before they publically ditch us for the ACC- need to have your heads examined. We don't need them at all and we should not accomodate them.

Hard to respect articles like this. He quotes...

“If the Catholic 7 is leaving and forming its own conference for next year, they could certainly call us to want to explore our options. And if they were interested in accommodating us, it would certainly be a viable option. We have a lot of respect for those schools and know them well.”

...and immediately criticizes Swarbrick for...

assuming the Catholic Seven would want them.
All he said was they would certainly call, which sounds reasonable to me, i.e. checking options and Notre Dame seems like it has been kept informed in this process.

ND is a cash cow. and this is money hence why you want ND. ND has an advantage of being able to stand as an Independent in football and is thus the only FBS school that would work in the C7. Having ND gives the C7 some connection to the Football NCAA driven world. That said the odds of ND going to the C7 at this point are low. I don't think people suffer SS from ND most are aware of the Giant ND FBS juggernaut. However this is the NCAA and this is about $$. If the C7 thought they could land ND they would, its not SS its just chasing the Benjamens. with ND its not about love, purity or piety its about the $$.
just repeat "show me the money" 10x and this whole realignment thing will make a lot more sense to you.

Excuse me? I'd like to see you justify that comparison.

It doesn't matter what side you are on with Notre Dame, that article is crap.

Your so right 90% of all ND articles are crap.. either written by utterly delusional ND homers or people who are just bitter ND bashers. There is virtually no middle ground.

Complete speculation on my part, but ND must have known that the C7 split was a possibility - its been rumored around the BE for at least the last 10 years as something like the CYO Conference. Pitt and 'Cuse announced they were leaving for the ACC in Sept 2011. A full year later ND announced they were leaving for the ACC. Before making the move official to the ACC, ND MUST have explored, discussed, or thought about all other options - including joining with the other BE hoops schools and forming a new conferences. they chose not to. the only reason they are talking about "joining" the C7 now for a year is to get out of paying their exit fees. They had their chance, why should the new BE "accommodate" them now? I think the C7 schools have been forced into taking the position of "if you are not with us then you are against us". Accommodating other schools is what corrupted the old BE to start with. No more!

The idea of a "CYO League" has absolutely been thrown about for a decade.
If ND stays until 2015 they are not liable for any exit fee due to their sweetheart deal. If they left for the ACC before that there would be a fee (Syr. & Pitt worked out $7.5m early exits).
It is a very interesting point that if ND should exit as part of the C7 group they would in theory fit the criteria to be exempt from exit fees.
While I don't think it's that high on their list of motivations, I'm sure it has come up in South Bend. No reason to throw away a few $million.

Heard ND was interested but the C7 said no. Stability is king. No more transients
