I believe you've got! Yes!

Again Creighton is a great program. If it was located in Chicago or Philly or Cinncinnati or St. Louis we wouldn't be having this conversation since It'd obviously be SLU or Dayton at that point for the last possible slot........[/quote]

Just making sure your "recent success" meant in the last year. Thanks for the clarification!

Only the deranged support that premise now that it's Creighton and a bunch of losers in the Valley.

Pretty tough talk considering your team's current head coach was fired from a Valley school. When relying on the Valley's sloppy seconds, probably shouldn't be so quick to insult them. If you want to ague in favor of SLU, do it without insulting other schools.

Let's face it doesn't everyone wake up in the morning and thank God they don't live in Omaha?

Time for some facts. SLu was remarkably mediocre and garnered zero national interest before Majerus got there and started rebuilding. Even under his tenure, SLU hardly garnered any national interest. Now that he is gone (God rest his soul) it doesn't take much of imagination at all to predict that SLU will return to the same mediocre status once his recruits finish their eligibility. Jim Crews got fired at both Evansville and Army before landing at SLU. If he is your designated leader going forward, it would probably be wise to temper your expectations.

Gonzaga and Butler have shown that they would have received bids even in tougher conferences by beating stong programs during their OOC schedules and by making deep runs in the tournament on multiple occasions. That's why they would likely be less of a risk than SLU or Dayton.

Remember it's not about the past NCAA credits as those will remain with the respective conferences, it's about future NCAA potential grouped in this new conference.

If your head coach drops dead right before the season it's REALLY hard to pull a first class replacement out of your hat. Interesting that Crew's replacement at evansville is now a retread on the Bluejay bench......... No way Crews is the coach of the future for the Bills. He was only there as a favor to Majerus to begin with.......

I should also point out that your "imagination" should include millions of dollars spent for a state of the art arena and practice facilities. Mediocrity is not in SLU's future.

Sorry, SLU's basketball history is the definition of "mediocrity." New facilities will help, but it's not a guarantee. You also need a good coach, a strong fanbase and an administration that backs you as well.

Wow, you can guarantee that if Mcdermott's heart exploded today that YOUR Evansville retread would take over without missing a beat and start recruiting at the same level? Would your player of the year candidate stay if that were the case?

There are damned few programs that aren't one bad coaching decision or a few bad recruiting classes from oblivion and Creighton isn't one of them.

I can guarantee that we have 17 NCAA tourney appearances and a HISTORY of success, fan support and an administration that backs us. Can you?

I think the people making this decision are fairly shrewd business-people.

Creighton and SLU are both good prospects not because of coach-name or history, but how they are positioned for success.

Creighton owns Omaha in basketball and Omaha is the hub for that region. Its a good hoops town.
SLU has a great on-campus facility, and its competition in the St. Louis metro area are in football oriented leagues.

SLU had a season ticket base of 10K+ in the late 1990's. They WILL get back to those levels in this new league and the Big East knows it....our big A-10 rivals stay on our schedule and we home games back with Creighton, Marquette, DePaul? Then throw in some marquee eastern schools? Piece of cake to sell that ticket package in St. Louis!

Mizzou may have a top 25 team, but their move to the SEC has been viewed as a step down basketball-wise from the Big 12. The syndicated Big East Basketball package will be much more popular than the SEC package in the St. Louis market. What would you rather watch? Georgetown-Villanova or Georgia-Ole Miss? I don't even want to discuss the popularity of a LaSalle-St. Bona game...

The Big East marketing and TV people are factoring in market POTENTIAL because this agreement has the potential to change the playing field in all of the affected cities!

I know a lot of the fanbases from the Big East schools want to keep the conference as close to the northeast as possible. Personally, I think that is a mistake. For long term survivability, I think expanding out of the northeast corner of the country is essential. College basketball is the most regional of all sports when it comes to TV coverage. Getting a larger presence outside of the eastern seaboard will help substantially in developing national, instead of regional, interest.
