Just an FYI next weekend all the AD's and Presidents will be in New York next weekend as well as all the Presidents and AD's of the A-10 Schools... I would not be surprised if the new league is announced at MSG in some sort of press conference with everyone milling around New York. Creighton will be off that weekend so it would not be hard for the AD and the Pres of Creighton to accidentally be in New York as well. Do not be shocked if any announcements are held of till then, so they can do it at the MSG which they paid so much for.

How do you know we paid much of anything for the MSG contract? As far as I'm concerned, we have little clue as to what any of the costs were in the contract, since we don't know what the other options were. To know the costs we need to have a baseline to reference. All we seem to know is Fox likely forced the issue and is covering some of the losses suffered due to that.

Without any of us knowing the exact dollar details, I think its safe to say the C7 paid a lot for the package they got, which includes, reportedly, the MSG contract. No need to pick nits over it. :)

I agree with Yorst, I don't think the C7 "paid" for the MSG contract. They left large portions of their shares of other school's exit fees and NCAA credits on the table in exchange for the Big East brand and to split now as opposed to a year from now. My understanding (based on various reports and not first hand knowledge ) is that the contract between the current BE and MSG allows MSG an out clause if future realignment occurs - the C7 move allows MSG to walk away from its contract. Perhaps as part of the split with the C7 (in exchange for leaving so much money on the table) the FB schools agreed not to seek a new agreement with MSG.

If leaving in 2015 would have netted us $70 million this was a lot more expensive than if leaving in 2015 would have netted us $35 million. On top of that, the Fox deal is a boon so getting to it earlier offsets losses incurred by staying on their media deal. We don't know much of anything in this, I bet a lot think we sacrificed a lot more $$ than we really did.

Oh i agree, i don't know... see all my oatmeal comments. But think about it if the C7 did get the MSG site wouldn't it be nice to make the announcement there? in New York? at one of the crown jewels of BBall? Add into the fact that all the presidents and AD's for the C7 and A-10 schools will already be in town. The only person missing is Creighton who conveniently has that weekend off. I'm sure Creighton's Pres and AD wouldn't mind a weekend trip to NY. It just seems like a good time to make an announcement when just about everyone is in town and you can do it at MSG.

I have no inside sources and this isn't even based on any internet rumors. Its just looking at the obvious (BE and A-10 tourneys in NY next week) (Creighton free next weekend) and the fact that you can make the announcement at MSG. Its like why people announce their engagements at family reunions, Christmas and stuff... its just nice to do when everyone is around. Yeah the announcement could come in 5 minutes... The announcement could come in June... i don't know but i'm just pointing out that next weekend the stars are aligned and all the bigwigs will be in one place.

Yes, especially with all the schools well represented.

and as to what we paid the BEFBS for. I don't think it was for the rights to MSG per se. I think MSG has a clause that it can cancel the deal anyways. I think that it might have been more like a non-compete . Something more like we will pay you 5 million to not challenge our right to play at MSG.

Granted this is all just speculation on my part. Don't quote my number and i have not reviewed any of the pertinent contracts. Its just based on my knowledge on contracts and negotiations plus the information i have gathered on the what the deal is worth it is what i would have done or suggested to my clients.

Obviously if any of the facts change you could easily come up with a different conclusion. If you have access to any of these facts... you have been holding out on the board and i request that you divulge any facts that you know ASAP.
