Advantage of being Team #10 for 2013?

Beyond not having to play as a lame duck for a season, is there a tangible benefit to either Creighton or Dayton joining this year rather than next?

I don't know what you get paid for your TV rights in the MVC (I'm guessing it would be less than the A10s 350k), but I can think of 4.1 million advantages if you believe the stories being thrown around about the TV contract.

For Creighton the only benefit would be that they would get one more year of any built up units and with the TV deal vs. MVC's tv deal i don't think its close.
For Likewise for Dayton but i think they have less units built up.
honestly i think Slu would just pay to get out... They will probably dance next year with this team and waiting 1 more year just adds to number of units they would lose. Also If X, Butler and Dayton leave first travel in the A-10 for all sports would basically set them back the million in savings.

Why? Because 10 is a perfectly viable number. There's no guarantee of expansion.

Personally, Id be awfully concerned if my team wasn't playing in the league next year. The schools prefer 10 and if it goes well?

The C7 get to keep their NCAA units from the Big East right? But the new schools are leaving theirs behind to join? Seems like the new guys are starting at a disadvantage that will last the 6 year duration of NCAA unit distribution. I imagine the accrued units of the new league will exceed what they were getting though.

To the OP, the risk would be what if they decided 10 was the right number? I don't think that's where this stops, but you don't want to be left without a dance partner.

Which wouldn't change if they came a year later. Even if the first six years are a disadvantage, it is still getting to later years earlier.

I could definitely be wrong, but I believe the Big East (which we are now) is keeping the units. Therefore, whichever agreement the league has as far as the sharing of NCAA units will apply to all of the schools in the league.

Meaning Xavier and Butler, and whoever else joins will get a cut of the units that will still be in the coffers.

I've not heard anything stating that the C7 schools are reallocating their NCAA units to the new additions. I would be surprised if that was the case.

The other benefit is if the 11th and 12th teams are not decided on before July 1, I would imagine schools 8-10 would be able to vote on possible expansion targets. That could be big and swing a prospective school from in to out and vice-versa.

I suspect this will not be an issue, teams 11 & 12 still need to declare intention to leave the current conference by that point to reduce the buyout (for the A-10 teams) by giving notice. (Or to avoid the league raising fees in the case of Creighton.) If the buy-out money is an issue at all then we will hear teams 11 & 12 the same time we hear 8, 9 & 10.
