Creighton's invitation

Postby MUSeashells&Balloons » Mon Apr 08, 2013 10:52 am

If anyone is curious this is how Creighton's invitation process occurred:
Around the 4th of March they received a call not an invitation but a call with a question: If Creighton was invited would you say yes?
Creighton had already discussed the matter on the board and told the caller that they would say yes.
Creighton then proceeded to hire an attorney for the negotiations they needed to find an attorney that was independent of current conference realignment proceedings. They hired an attorney who had worked with Boston College on their move to the ACC.
Then after waiting about a week they received the formal invite on March 13th with an invitation to the conference and NY for the announcement a week later on the 20th the one we are all familiar with.
Pretty crazy that they made all this happen in really just two weeks.
My source has also told me Creighton is trying to get the new leagues baseball championship at TD Ameritrade park(in Omaha) where the College World series is held.

Makes sense to have the baseball tourney there, they along with St. John's will be the powers in baseball.

Creighton's president is on the Marquette Board of Trustees.... lets not pretend that Creighton was surprised.

I've been saying all the long most of the decisions probably occurred a long time ago. You don't just make decisions like this in 2 weeks.

I think having the baseball champ in Omaha would be pretty cool. unless it in someway would lead to the NCAA moving the college world series. (ie not wanting to have the college word series played in the same park as a conference championship. )

the NCAA is committed to Omaha for the CWS for a long time

since there are only 2 tennants at TDA (CU and the CWS) - the logistics on having the baseball tournament there should be fairly easy.

i also expect CU to be bidding for the soccer tourney as well - CU's soccer complex is second to none for NCAAs.

i also hope that some emphasis is put on baseball - coming from a very good baseball conference - i'm hoping the new league can step up and make an effort in that area. college baseball really is a lot of fun and the CWS is a heckuva great event.

TD Ameritrade Park hosted the MVC baseball tourney a couple of years ago and is expected to host the Big Ten tourney soon. Neither has caused the NCAA to say that Omaha won't continue to host the College World Series. In fact, there is a long term contract in place between the city of Omaha and the NCAA for the event.

The stadium is only a couple of years old and is nicer than most minor league parks. It would be wise of the conference to have Creighton host the tourney since none of the baseball facilities at the other schools even comes close to the quality of TD Ameritrade Park. It may even help out recruiting a bit as coaches could boast to potential recruits that the conference tourney will be held at the same place as the College World Series.

I figured that park was a perk to adding Creighton so don't know why they wouldn't host it there.

I agree, if you got it use it. and if it doesn't bother the NCAA i can't see any other reason why not to. Its an awesome facility.

Well what I picked up was there was desire to have non-basketball tournaments at rotating sites(like Creighton would host every 7 years). But Creighton falls more on the side of either permanent locations for tournaments or a system where schools bid to host the tournaments both of which would fall in Creighton's favor for Baseball and is from what I gather more or less how non-revs are currently done in the Big East. I think theres no doubt that TD Ameritrade Park is the best facilities to host it at. But some don't want Creighton to have an advantage, but personally as I see it St. Johns has a theoretical advantage at the garden but it doesn't seem to matter in the tournament so best facilities I think should be king.
