What does that have to do with being excited or not about where the tournament is played? Fans can't enjoy their sport unless its a top conference? If anything, wouldn't it be even more impressive to fans for a one bid conference to have a premiere location? I don't follow baseball, but I would think having a notable tournament facility helps recruiting and is something to be excited about.

Honestly, sometimes I forget that Xavier has a baseball team until threads like this come up.

C'mon, people are talking about being the SEC of this sport or that sport... If the level of competition isn't {insert adjective} then what positive is gained by playing in a stadium that seats 24,000 people? I'd be more inclined to put it in Coney Island, seating 7,500 on the beach. Obviously I'm overstating a point, but filling a smaller facility against a higher end opponent looks & feels a lot better than playing against a mediocre team in an empty cavern. To be honest, I'm not schleping 1,200 miles to watch 7 average or worse teams play in a wonderful stadium and I can't imagine many will fr/the east coast schools.

I will personally take the blame for the abuse of the SEC term. Father forgive me... hail mary... hail mary.. our father ... glory be... glory be....

That said i don't think anyone on this board has ever accused BE baseball as the SEC of baseball (where one could argue that the SEC is the SEC of baseball but i digress). Even if Slu and its usually decent and currently A-10 dominant baseball team is added no one will confuse BE baseball with a power conference. The fact is that college baseball is a southern sport and the drain of travel and the joys of 30 degree home games will likewise prevent any northern conference from becoming a power. However i would like to add.

1. Baseball is a non-rev that gets TV exposure so the handful of BE schools that have baseball and play competitively will be served well by gaining a media platform for games. As well known the Spring sports season is the weakest sports season for colleges and for sports in general. Any exposure for the league is good exposure.

2. The college world series is in Omaha... it shouldn't matter if the final game comes down to 10,000 Creighton fans and 200 anyone else fans. For all the reasons you play the BBall tourney at MSG, you play the baseball tourney in Omaha.

3. Baseball will never be one of the BE strongest sports. However due to point 1 and point 2 the baseball league should be supported, and I encourage everyone to support the BE baseball teams and all non revs -this is more than just basketball-

4. I now pledge to only use the term "SEC" when referring to the SEC. Even when referring to BE soccer, which legitimately could be called the SEC of college soccer. I will refer to it as BE soccer, as the other conference should think as SEC football as the BE soccer of college football.

Well, that annoys me, too, since we aren't the SEC of any sport as far as I know. As he just said above, BillEsq's oatmeal has an ongoing love affair with SEC comparisons, but keep in mind he's here for St. Louis and Bellarmine, not a team already in the Big East! ...and was there a SEC of baseball comparison? I sure hope not! On a side, the AAC looks like it will be great in baseball, though, they could really benefit from a surge in popularity of the college sport.

I get you on the competition level not exciting fans to travel, but some still will and Midwest fans might be more apt to show up. They have a wonderful facility, I think the east coast teams can deal with going there. It's good propaganda for recruits if nothing else.

on a side note i've tried to keep my comments to obvious expansion threads and non-revs and have actually chastised other Slu fans for needless whining on this board. if neither Slu or Bellarmine make it in the BE i will cease my posting. However until the BE makes its final decision as to what it is doing next year in regards to members both full and associate i reserve the right to keep the light on. Or if i get a message from the name in red that says that my account is being disabled, whichever comes first.

BillEsq I personally have always enjoyed what you have to contribute so hope one of those adds happens not only because they would be good additions but also because it will help bring good insight to this board.

Whoa! I unintentionally sent this thread off in a different direction.
Let me point out that I started this thread complimenting TD Ameritrade Park.
I'm more interested in non-revs that already exist w/ enough BE members w/o associates & the quality of play in those sports.

ESPN plans to show all the NCAA baseball tournament games this year. Mostly on ESPN3, but this should increase exposure for college baseball and the CWS.
