The basketball-only approach may seem to be working for the new Big East but investments being made by schools like Virginia Tech, Auburn, Alabama, and TCU, hardly traditional hoops powers, portend a shift in basketball’s hierarchy, one driven by the massive windfalls of football revenue. The smartest way to “focus on basketball” these days is to make $20+ million per year playing football.

Yeah, seems like most UCONN fans are against the move.....it will be interesting to see what happens if the Big XII passes on them, to watch them wallow in the AAC for football...

From what I read, it seems the only reason some of them are against it is because they are worried about being excluded from the future non-NCAA governing body that the P5 schools form. No one on their board has brought it up but I just can't see a governing body like that existing without the membership of the 3rd best basketball conference in the country.
The ACC television deal, which pays each school an average of $17 million per year, is divided 80% for football and 20% for basketball.
