Would UCONN have exit fees? I remember reading somewhere that if UC and UCONN leave the conference contract is voided.

If I remember correctly, it's 10 million dollar exit fee and you can leave in 3 years. As for the TV contract, I think if they lose 2 of these 4 teams (Cincy, Houston, Temple, UCONN?), then the contract can be voided...

SBNation's UCONN blog doesn't seem to like the idea. http://www.theuconnblog.com/2016/8/22/1 ... tball-only

I am sure you will all appreciate the "Fake Big East" references.

Yeah, seems like most UCONN fans are against the move.....it will be interesting to see what happens if the Big XII passes on them, to watch them wallow in the AAC for football...

I'd sure as hell rather be in the "Fake" Big East than the "Real" AAC.

my favorite gem:
The basketball-only approach may seem to be working for the new Big East but investments being made by schools like Virginia Tech, Auburn, Alabama, and TCU, hardly traditional hoops powers, portend a shift in basketball’s hierarchy, one driven by the massive windfalls of football revenue. The smartest way to “focus on basketball” these days is to make $20+ million per year playing football.

ALL FOOTBALL SCHOOLS have been throwing gobs and gobs of money at their basketball programs for HALF A CENTURY... and no amount of money has ever worked. At least for a sustainable time... They are all still football schools first. And all the UCONN fans on their message board are CONVINCED the P5 won't invite the Big East into their new division... NOWHERE is that not a possibility right now. We can buy our way in, not like we are low on cash right now.

Buzz Williams is going to get buyers remorse when Justin Fuente is walking down the hall with Frank Beamer, points in his office and says, "how much should we donate to Uncle Fester's handball team here, BWAAHHHAAA HAAAA HAAAA." (both roll on ground in laghter). Hell, even the hokie women's bb team has their own booster club before the MBB: http://www.thekeyplay.com/content/2016/august/22/virginia-tech-creates-football-only-support-club

ALL the coaches in the BE, current and former (Pitino, Boeheim) acknowledged how important it is for the MBB Coach to have the corner office in the athletic department (basically in full agreement with what Jay Wright has been preaching ever since the split, and now he's got his ring). Except for Duke I don't know of one other program in the football 5 that puts their basketball coach on a higher plane than the FB coach. Kentucky, Kansas, North Carolina... don't matter who it is, playing with football money BOTHERS them. And that goes for the players too. Who doesn't want to be the #1 BMOC?

I wouldn't say most their fans are against the move. On the boneyard they had a poll about what their next move should be if they don't get a Big 12 invite. Joining the Big East got 33 votes and staying the course got 32. From what I read, it seems the only reason some of them are against it is because they are worried about being excluded from the future non-NCAA governing body that the P5 schools form. No one on their board has brought it up but I just can't see a governing body like that existing without the membership of the 3rd best basketball conference in the country. If the p5 schools were to exclude the BE from a new NCAA-style tournament, you are excluding some of the nation's most storied basketball programs. That specific critique of our conference makes very little sense to me.

Big-revenue football is driving that bus, with college basketball appearing in its rear-view mirror.

New Atlantic 10 Television Contract Shows Big East Basketball Schools Aren't Going Anywhere – October 3, 2012
The ACC television deal, which pays each school an average of $17 million per year, is divided 80% for football and 20% for basketball.

Reading UConn blog comments is freakin annoying. Their younger fans are too stupid, not creative enough, too timid yet blustering, not confident enough in their brand or something, and have no freakin vision.

If the AAC loses Cincinnati and Houston or more, some thoughts:
1. They should want to go independent in football and join the Big East. Forget about the Sun Belt or C-USA or the MAC, that's backward small-minded thinking.
2. Sign a deal with Fox for their football for whatever... the State of Connecticut is one of the wealthiest in the country.
3. With their hoops in the Big East, and playing in the MSG BET, it will absolutely send the ACC a-holes into a lather, which may be a quicker ticket to an ACC invitation.
4. They're making a lot right now off windfall from the C7 and others' exits. This ends in a few years. Then they'll make jack, right? Look at it this way, we 10 in the Big East had the freakin stones and vision and confidence to break out on our own, pay a chunk of money to get free, and we're freakin fine.

Independent football:
5. if they finish 500 or better, they'll make a freakin bowl, because there are 70 freakin bowl slots... work a deal with the freakin Yankee Pinstripe Bowl or whatever... holy cow, these idiots have no vision and cannot freakin think outside the box... show some freakin confidence.
6. schedule UMass, Army, BYU, a FCS school, and then tailor your schedule however you'd like... I don't get the problem here... replace Tulsa, Tulane, etc, with any other available team and no one would notice.

General thoughts:
7. I'm torn... UConn has a great hoops program, they have longtime rivalries with us, and would strengthen the Big East... but...
8. UConn's press leaks and wishy washy stupidity and loudmouth president, and never-ending whining is exactly what I absolutely don't want in the Big East. Screw them. We don't need the drama or soap opera.
9. at this point, their older sensible fans are getting drowned out by their idiot younger crowd.
10. so my emotional side doesn't want their drama to hose up our great conference... as soon as they would join us, they'll be begging for the ACC again, and I can't take that again.
11. in conclusion, again, my emotional side here... I'd rather have a school that wants to be here... give me Dayton, VCU, etc, rather than these UConn a-holes.

Ok, get off my lawn...
