Financial sense or not I think there have to be conference tournaments for all sports which would normally have one. Having no tournaments would look decidedly small-time. Small-time is not a good look for us right now.

Can you name which B1G sports do or do not have conference tournaments?

They might, I have no idea. The point is, how many fans truly know? Maybe some over informed fans will smart at being small time looking, but does that translate to the general sports fan population thinking that? Save a few sports, I don't know anything about most conference's sports, much less the situation on the conference postseason.

Frankly I'd be fine if we hosted about half a dozen conference tournaments and devoted our resources to the more meaningful sports. My concern is that might create a storm of bad PR for a league that wants to get off on the right foot.

"more meaningful sports," can't wait to see who decides what sports have more meaning than others...

From the sounds of it, nobody. It's just that some sports are considering not holding a tournament of their own volition. It's coaches that have suggested this, apparently, not the conference.

While we want all of the conference sports to be successful and compete nationally - and we will in a number of areas including soccer and baseball to name two - there is only one sport to which this conference will be judged as being big time or not. That is men's basketball. This conference will not be deemed small time if it gets five or six teams in the NCAA but has no conference tournies in any sports except hoops.

Basketball - M/W
Baseball
Mens Soccer
Volleyball

Not much else matters unfortunately and that goes for all leagues not just the Big East.

What do you mean they "don't matter?" They definitely matter, they just don't make money/break even. If that is the criteria, that is fine. No problems here. But saying they don't matter is pretty harsh. (I played soccer so I'm happy my sport matters, it just seems ridiculous to say other sports don't matter and aren't meaningful. Every sport has a fan base and has people who enjoy playing and competing. That seems meaningful to me.)
