2013-2014 Big East Predictions

Postby bluejayfan00 » Wed May 22, 2013 11:13 am

I know it might be a little early, but I thought it could be fun to get other posters thoughts. Let's make some predictions!
Standings
1.Marquette-
2.Georgetown
3.Villanova
4.Creighton
5.St.Johns
6.Xavier
7.Providence
8. Butler
9.Seton Hall
10. DePaul

I think every team could be shuffled around a lot. I think as a Jays fan finishing 4th is respectable. We could finish a lot better then that, or a lot lower. I think if Gibbs gets his 6th year we'll be tough. But, if not, our new JUCOS Milliken and Brooks will have to score the ball. Should be a fun first year!

The top 8 teams can all be NCAA caliber teams IMO so there could be alot of movement between the top 8:

1. Marquette
2. Georgetown
3. Villanova
4. Creighton
5. St. John's
6. Providence
7. Xavier
8. Butler
9. Seton Hall
10. DePaul

This league is going to be a killer, just like the old BE. PC beat Nova twice last year and will be vastly improved. They also beat SJU last year but SJU will have an excellent team this year. But if Nova is picked 3rd and PC 7th, then the differences top to bottom in this league are amazingly slim.

Xavier is a wild card this year so I don't know where they are going to be (will definitely be better after a year of growth).

But, I am shocked that people are putting Butler at 7-10. You guys realize they have Brad Stevens right?

Probably more a factor of just being tough to place them in a natural pecking order. By the time you take the stalwarts (Georgetown, Villanova, Marquette), the returning star (Creighton), and those touted on the rise (St. John's, Providence), it gets tough to slot Butler and Xavier higher even if you think they might be at large worthy or contend for the conference title. ...so those two just fall in line, and the ranker briefly feels guilty before moving on.

If Xavier finishes below fifth I will eat my hat.

That being said, the guys who have been with this conference longer obviously know more about their returning programs, but don't undervalue the new kids either.

I think it's pretty darn early to be doing this. At this time last year I'd have had Xavier competing for a conference championship, but by the time November rolled around I wasn't sure if they'd hit .500. That said, here are my predictions:

1. Marquette
2. Georgetown
3. Villanova
4. Creighton
5. St. John's
6. Butler
7. Xavier
8. Providence
9. Seton Hall
10. DePaul
